Make your Home Greener With Baker College’s Ideas
0 Comments Published by brian yalung September 18th, 2008 in Home Appliances, Home Designs, decorating.Technically, we have been briefed on how to make each home greener and wiser. But while we have a lot of these ideas spread over the web, nothing beats being shown how to do it. Organizations such as Baker College offer such tips and advice which should really help in making a home eco-friendly and wiser to live in. At the rate that life is getting harder, making the wise choice of going green is certainly something that each consumer and home-owner should really try to instill in themselves.

“We don’t like to see the dump sites fill up with things like rubber that hang around forever,” said Debbie Miller as she toured the studio rooms, which step-daughter, Bethany, helped design with other students. “I like this whole green idea for future (homes).”

A Touch of Green Interiors with Kelly LaPlante

Interior design ideas for your home may be varied but if there is something that is really hot and drawing interest these days is the fact that green initiatives towards proper eco-friendly interior designs made possible by popular designers such as Kelly LaPlante. True, we can always turn towards own ideas as far as improving green home ideas based on what we have been gathering on the web but molding them all together in one whole package is the job of socially responsible people such as this green-dedicated interior designer.
“I’ve always been surrounded by people who were a little bit altruistic … and to have this always around you, I just found there was an imbalance with my work,” says Ms. LaPlante, who started her career in San Francisco.
“Interior design can be so wasteful, you know? You go in and rip everything out and make things that aren’t necessarily being made by people paid a living wage. … I didn’t want to stop being a designer, but I didn’t want to feel nasty about it, either.”

Silo Media Consoles

Placing and organizing your home entertainment system may be a good option, especially if you talk about the standards features of having a wooden furniture organizer rack where you can place the usual TV, DVD players and component system which is normally found in the den or the family room.
While many are gearing towards innovative ways for their bedroom, this new Silo Media Console setup from Twin-Star International is something for the home owner to see and consider.
The consoles, which will be sold under the Tresanti Furniture name, are made of wood solids and veneers and feature multi-step finishes. Styles range from traditional to contemporary.
Other features include dovetail drawers with full extension glides, and wire management cut-outs that allow easy access to electronics components.

US Sets Bar for Safety Standards Furniture Export
2 Comments Published by brian yalung September 16th, 2008 in BED Furniture, BED Kids, BED News, Baby, Bed Designs, Crib.
Apparently this news article is something that has me confused in a way. For one, why would a country allow furniture exports into their wing without the proper safety standards that is practically a requirement for the sake of consumers? Perhaps it took a lot of deaths and injuries to tighten the standards of furniture quality. But as they say, better late than never!
This developed as we have seen a lot of recalls, particularly crib safety, and while many of us love cheap furniture, it should not serve as a compromise for safety. Hopefully though with these set mandatory safety certification, better control for erring suppliers who seem more to look at profit over consumer concerns.
The requirement will take effect on November 12, an official from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said here Monday.
Richard W. O’Brien, the commission’s director of Office of International Programs and Intergovernmental Affairs, said President Bush had signed a sweeping revision of consumer product safety laws on August 14, 2008.

So you have the proper setup for your own home theatre. You have the large screen LCD or Plasma Television and the great sounding home theatre speakers. What is there left? Well for one, have you ever considered where you would be sitting?
Sure there will always be the couch or the standard bed, depending on where you setup your home theatre. But what If you had a suitable recliner made from green descent like the typical Lazy-boy you always envied?
It was inevitable that we’d soon see green home theater furniture. Start with new line of totally green Royal home theater recliners from CDGi (Cinema Design Group International). Tineke Beunders’ Marbelous Table
1 Comment Published by brian yalung September 15th, 2008 in Home Designs, Livingroom, Table.
In what looks like to be more of a game table over a standard dining or room table, the Tineke Beunders’ Marbelous table seems to be fit for kids who want something else to do other than dine. Play marbles perhaps?
Thanks to the holes and curves design that this table has, kids can use the table as a play ground of their own, like perhaps which marble or small rounded object would reach the bottom first. A good table to have for people who want to get the rare designs to adhere towards some type of recreational fun in homes today.

The line between the grown up and kiddie tables blur with Netherlands-based designer Tineke Beunders’ Marbelous. It has grooves cut into the tabletop, legs and supports that’ll have marbles rolling all the way down to the floor. The best part? You could also sneak your vegetables: olives, sprouts, peas — just toss them into the trenches at the sides and pray the dog is nearby.

Ash Wood Furniture Alternatives
2 Comments Published by brian yalung September 15th, 2008 in BED Furniture, Home Appliances, Home Designs, Kids Furniture, Livingroom.
Ash wood is something most home owners are unaware of but if you look at it, they can be made into great furniture if they were manufactured and marketed to the public better. Today, we only know of ash wood as raw materials used in shovels used in gardening, making it underutilized in a potentially high demanding market.

As a furniture material, Kriegshauser says ash is underutilized. There are only so many shovel handles that you need, he says.
He says ash “is a little cantankerous to carve - it has soft and dense spots,” but he likes the ash medium for its beauty and natural pale color.

So if you are inclined to check out new materials for your furniture, you would be better checking out the line made from ash wood. They are not familiar materials that may heard but are bound to be furniture alternatives in the near future.

Lushy Leaf Coverings for your Outer Walls
0 Comments Published by brian yalung September 14th, 2008 in Home Designs, News, outdoors.People have never realized the actual use of seeing veins or leafy plants covering the outer walls of their home. In fact, some have done away with them. But after reading this article which narrates how having such lushy leafy coverings can help act as insulators, it may not be surprising to see most home owners growing them back again.
One thing about global warming is that the temperature levels are different. When you talk about heat, walls will have their share of becoming a factor in proper home temperatures. Plants and leaves can help bring down the usual problem of depending on air conditioners since they act as insulators which is something that has been overlooked. Perhaps people thought they were merely for design? Well apparently they serve more purpose than that.

Green walls can be excellent insulators, reducing the temperature fluctuation of a building by as much as 50% - which means less need for heating or air conditioning, so lower carbon emissions. The plants act as pollution and noise filters, and can reduce localised flooding, as they absorb rainwater rather than letting it run straight into the drains. They also provide food and shelter for insects and birds, increasing biodiversity.
