We can talk about beds all we want, the most expensive, most luxurious, most glamorous beds, all that. However, if we aren’t able to sleep because of our babies crying every single night, what do we do? That beautiful bed may be beckoning but we’ve a responsibility to our child. Here’s a site with ideas and ways to help regulate the child’s sleep and make yours more organized as well.

If you decide to go the sleep consultant route - be careful! We hired Helen Sands in Vancouver to help us with our 2 year old’s sleep issues. She was absolutely terrible! Hopefully she won’t brag about her “100% success rate” anymore. Her emails were condescending and unprofessional. She never directly contacts her clients other than to ask a few brief template questions, yet proports to fully understand the problems (even though she never actually addressed ours!).

When we told here where our continuing issues where, she basically told us that we weren’t following her instructions so it will be a “washout” (we were following her instructions) - she didn’t even offer any further advice (no wonder she says “no refunds right up front!).

The written report she sent was completely age inappropriate and totally out of touch with reality (a 2 year old doesn’t understand a future reward system - i.e. “when you collect 5 flowers you can come to the store to buy one present, but if you disobey you lose a flower…”).

I doubt that much more than a small portion of the written report she sent us was actually personalized. (It seemed like a template she just added our daughter’s name to). She didn’t answer some of our most pressing concerns, and threw in suggestions for problems we have never encountered.

I’m terribly disappointed. And when I raised my issues with her, she sent me back a snarky email and said “this is the final communication and I’m blocking you from my email list so you can’t respond”. How sad, unprofessional and childish! Talk about acting like a 2 year old…

Moreover, the few small useful tidbits of helpful info in her written report seem to been taken practically verbatim from the books we told her we’d already read (plagiarism???…).

Save yourself some time and money - don’t hire this woman. Anything she tells you is more affordably and helpfully available in any thrift store kids sleep book…
