Nothing beats the satisfying sound of surprised family members on what some people can do with their old rooms. Turning them into something like a new room to stay in will surely be the reward that most amateur designers would more than want.
Recycling and resourcefulness is the key. Of course a touch of imagination and creativity can go a long way as well, something that most people will surely have fun doing as well.
