It’s hard to pinpoint the invention of the first daybeds, since people have been lounging on their beds as though they were couches for many centuries. However, you can trace some of the various materials from which these beds were made and follow the evolution of the bed. In today’s world, there are a number of materials available, and Hillsdale Furniture provides models of all types.
The metal day bed was one of the first kinds, since all furniture could be fashioned from metal and simply covered with animal pelts or quilted materials full of goose or duck down. These daybeds were functional though they weren’t completely uncomfortable. By this time, Medieval civilization had many more modern comforts with which to work and make their beds cozy. Therefore, the bedding was not as basic and functional without design or softness like the beds of prehistoric man.
The contemporary daybed is much more sophisticated and stylish, with a variety of design choices. You can choose from among a wrought iron daybed style with intricate design or a straight-laced minimalistic look. You can also choose wooden or brass material as you see fit or as you like, based on your taste and stylistic values.
One of the most functional types is the trundle day bed, which offers the opportunity to have two people share a bedroom while taking up little floor space, with one bed being stored under the other when not in use. There are a number of these available through Hillsdale Furniture that can be stylish and fabulous for your purposes. Most of the daybeds you’ll find today still recall their roots back in early designs, simply adding the modern conveniences of the extras and providing the necessary place from which to enjoy other modern inventions, like the television!
