We all love falling asleep and living out our fantasies in our dreams, whether it’s winning the lottery or being a hero. Here are some interesting facts about sleep:
- We all dream, it’s just that some of us don’t remember them
- A lack of dreaming can mean you have a personality disorder or protein deficiency
- Our dreams last for around one to two hours a night and you will have between four and seven dreams every night
- Your brain is more active while you are asleep than while you are awake
- If you have been blind since birth you will dream using your senses, but if you have become blind after birth you will see images in your dreams
- Toddlers are unable to dream about themselves until they are around three or four years old
- You cannot snore and dream at the same time
- Most people dream in colour, but 12% of people dream in black and white
- If you are giving up smoking you will tend to have more vivid dreams
- Men dream more about other men, but women dream equally about both males and females
- At some point in your life you have seen everyone who appears in your dreams
- The most common setting for your dreams tends to be your own house
- Five minutes after waking up half of your dreams are forgotten and after 10 minutes 90% of it is lost
- If woken up during REM – the deepest form of sleep – you are more likely to remember the dream than if you woke up naturally
