It doesn't and shouldn't really be "thick". It SHOULD have high quality memory foam or latex however. If you go by this simple guideline, you will be more happy with your mattress than if you went for the softest, thickest mattress at the highest price. Many times the mattresses that are the thickest have a lot of lower quality foams, then a higher quality foam on the top layer.
