IKEA Uses RPG to Promote Bedroom Furniture

Ikea and the Sims

One acknowledged way of making an indirect way of promoting stuff like beds and home furniture is through role playing games (RPG) like the Sims. This popular game made famous by EA Sports is pretty much familiar to people today and apparently helps provide a simulated way of daily living as if these characters are really alive.

One thing you will notice is that you have to build your own home and through proper funds, you can get a wide range of options to decorate your dream home in a virtual reality setting. This has apparently been the cue for IKEA as it has undertaken this unorthodox and indirect way of making their stuff popular to date.

In-game advertising (IGA) is nothing new with product placing cluttering up the likes of FIFA International Soccer billboards containing real-life brands, but hard coded advertising is still relatively new – ie the sort that allows actual interaction with branded products.

This isn’t the first time, however, that The Sims has been subject to this form of ad. Just last year you could buy and wear H&M clothes in the game. This Fashion pack was extremely popular, selling around 1 million copies.

The Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff expansion pack will be available in June and cost around £12.
