Flexible Exercise Beds
0 Comments Published by brian yalung August 26th, 2008 in BED Activities, BED DIY, BED Gadgets, BED Home, BED News, BED Technology, Bed Designs.Exercise is something that not too many people are quite fond about especially when they are in bed. Normally, beds that can help people with deficiencies normally in the hospitals are given specialized beds to assist them and avoid movement in times of pain. But these days, pain is not restricted to hospitals as people in homes have current problems of their own such as obesity and limited movement.
While most of us are encouraged to turn to exercise for better lives, beds pose a threat in getting it done. At times we find ourselves too lazy to get out of bed but with this new invention by surgeon Charles Filipi, this flexible exercise bed may soon be the answer to all these problems.
He says that many obese patients are required to exercise as part of their treatment. But getting them into a standing position can involve numerous staff and finding a treadmill for them to work out on can be even more time consuming.
When the patient needs to exercise, the bed slowly tips into the vertical position, planting the treadmill onto the ground ready to be used. That means a person can always access the treadmill easily, with minimal assistance from anyone else.

ThunderBird Bed
0 Comments Published by Tanya August 18th, 2008 in BED DIY, BED FUN, BED Frame, BED Home, BED Kids, Bed Designs. We here at Bedzine give Kevin Hassler a big thumbs for creating an airplane bed modeled after a U.S. Air Force Thunderb Hassler. Hassler did it for his 3 year old son and even hand-painted “Lt. Commander Brody Hassler, a.k.a. ‘Brodmeister which is his son’s nickname.
The father used the following materials: 18-inch bendable plywood for sides, wood and fiberglass (front of plane) and insulated foam board (to hold shape under fiberglass nose cone)

How to Fab Your Walls
It’s all about experimenting with what you’ve got. Look around your space, or a friend’s. You can use almost anything:
* Pages from an old book: I couldn’t sell back my outdated Norton Anthologies, so I’m prepping those wafer thin pages to cover a column in 17th century poetry. There’s like, 2000 pages in all.
* Postcards from the edge: If you’re someone whose friends and family travel to ooh-la-la places and send good pics, use them.
* Greeting cards: Sort them by dominant color, (cut them up if you’re not sentimental) and create your own David Hockney-esque masterpiece
* CDs/DVDs: You don’t really need that outdated Windows Install CD do you? Declutter as you design by taking those cast-off CDs from home and the office and paint them to create a geometric border or wall treatment. It will look like, totally groovy.
* Sheet music: So lyrical and artsy
* Office swag: If you’re the type to bring work home, why not do something cathartic with those oh-so-colorful TPS reports? Or try the Business Card Art Wall idea we posted earlier.

Here’s a really cool DIY showing you how to turn an IKEA Ramvik sideboard into an old-school gaming machine.
I had an old Powerbook G4 with broken hinges that I wanted to find a use for. I eventually decided to turn it into a dedicated MacMame machine. Here you’ll be able to see how it evolves!

The Blog, Mettes Potteri has a very interesting post on how to make your own Sofabed without much sweat. All you need is bed linen, two normal mattresses and maybe some gumption!
Excerpt from post:
“The back cushions contain a foam mattress in the size 90 cm. by 90 cm. 9 cm. thick It is folded and hold together with a strap. When we have friend over two of these on the floor makes it out for one bed. The foam sort of makes the mattress stick to the floor so it doesn’t slide apart during the night. We make the bed in the extra room, so it is still possible to have a little privacy. It works very well..”

How To Make a Headboard From a Photo
1 Comment Published by Tanya July 10th, 2008 in BED DIY, BED Frame, BED Home.
Headboards are a great way to change the look of your bed. Poppy Talk has done a blogpost on how to make a headboard from a photo. The results are great and the process simple.
Excerpt from the post:
1. once you have chosen your image (preferably a digital one). if not, you’ll have to take your original picture and scan it to make it into digital format. if you don’t have a scanner, you can take it to a local office center such as kinko’s where they can do this for you. they can put the image on a cd so you can take it to whichever printer you decide to take it to.
2. depending on the size of your original image and what type of camera the image was taken from, will depend on how large you will be able to blow up your image to. it’s best to have this looked at where you will be having the image blown up at for them to assess. the one’s in these images are at least 5′ x 7′, so your original image would need to be of pretty high quality in the pixel department.
3. for a matte canvas, ask to look at samples before you go ahead. according to my trusty old blueprint magazine, ask for heavyweight artist’s canvas, pigment-based dyes, and an ultra-violet-protective coating.
