* Tea candles (1 for each pumpcan)
* Matches or other firestarter

* Thin sharpie marker

We simply love the Tooth Fairy Pillow as it pays homage to a myth we all have grown up with. You can easily made the pillow at home and this makes a great gift for (or with) a loose-toothed child.

Supplies and Cutting Fabric
You will need: 2 – 8″ x 8″ square pieces of fabric (Note: it’s really cute if you use two contrasting patterns) 1 – 4″ x 4″ piece of colored felt (to use as pocket) 1 – small piece of white felt cut in the shape of a tooth (approximately 3″ tall by 2.5″ wide) 10-12″ piece of ribbon to use as hanger for pillow Scissors Needle and embroidery floss (white, brown, blue, or colors of your choice) Pinking shears are optional but add a nice finish to the edge of the pocket. Sewing machine or needle and thread to hand sew. Step One: Cut out your fabric. So you have 2 (even) 8″ squares. I mark mine with a marker and a ruler but you might want to use chalk or a pencil if you’re working with light colors.

Before the Wii and the PS3, there was Pac Man and those from my generation will vouch how addictive it was. Hence I love the Pacman pouf which can be made at home by following the directions here.

Material list:
- 15 mm MDF, depending on the size, you will need at least the C-shape to be created from one piece.
- 9 mm multiplex (plywood)
- 32mm*40mm timber (count number needed * height for total length needed)
- larger ones (for example 40mm*40mm) for the corners and block
- upholstery. I used sky to get that leather-look, but it is not so flexible. Mine had already some sliding-stuff on the inside, so it can slide over the foam. If you get other stuff, inform if you need additional stuff.
- cardboard strips. I had special ones, but you can cut some yourself
- staples…. lots!

Equipment needed
- workmate / bench
- Jigsaw
- drill
- drill-bits
- countersink
- screws (about 30mm in length, 3,2*30mm would be ok)
- wood glue (read instructions!)
- needle (curved one special for this type of work) and thread (special sturdy one!)
- sewing machine [if available] (I don’t know if a regular sewing machine is able to get through the upholstery)
- foam and other filling
- a stapler! (I had a pneumatic one, but an electrical or whatever is a must… I don’t thing the manual ones will be able to enter the MDF deep enough).
- knive
- markers

Technically, this refers to making a bed as far as organization is concerned and not really on how to actually make a bed. With all the turmoil and the hardships we are facing today, the best thing we could at least do is keep our rooms tidy. And the best way to go about it is to start with making our beds after getting up from a good night’s sleep.

Some homes have their maids while others leave that to their moms. But if you really have nothing else to do, take the initiative. Once you start with that, you are bound to notice other stuff such as clothes hanging around or perhaps some books left in disarray. The key to an organized life is having a properly maintained room so start with a well-made bed that can kick off your ideal room organization. It has a bearing on how to start your day right.

Depending on your practice, bed sheets would often follow a certain interval as far as changing them. This excludes instances of course like perhaps bed wetting or when the baby throws up. But setting aside these situations, some schedule bed sheet replacement normally weekly or if you are that fond of cleaning and have a lot spare bed sheets around, maybe twice a week.

Of the two, it seems that a weekly schedule is the better alternative. Consider the following things that can happen in a week to your bed sheet:

1. Building up of dust mites that can cause skin irritation
2. Mixture of sweat or unsanitary body fluids while we are sleeping
3. Accumulation of dirt from clothes when we lay down
4. Baby issues like vomiting or bet wetting

For sure a lot of us have had these issues at one time or another. But we also have to consider the following:

1. Bed sheets available for use
2. Cleaning issues
3. Green issues that include cutting down on use of water and detergents

But to be safe, a weekly changing of bed sheets is advisable. Besides, you don’t want to sleep in a bed that may have issues as far as skin and sanitary ones are concerned. It is just a matter of trying to put hygiene into it and a week is perhaps the best period to call it safely.

Exercise is something that not too many people are quite fond about especially when they are in bed. Normally, beds that can help people with deficiencies normally in the hospitals are given specialized beds to assist them and avoid movement in times of pain. But these days, pain is not restricted to hospitals as people in homes have current problems of their own such as obesity and limited movement.

While most of us are encouraged to turn to exercise for better lives, beds pose a threat in getting it done. At times we find ourselves too lazy to get out of bed but with this new invention by surgeon Charles Filipi, this flexible exercise bed may soon be the answer to all these problems.

He says that many obese patients are required to exercise as part of their treatment. But getting them into a standing position can involve numerous staff and finding a treadmill for them to work out on can be even more time consuming.

When the patient needs to exercise, the bed slowly tips into the vertical position, planting the treadmill onto the ground ready to be used. That means a person can always access the treadmill easily, with minimal assistance from anyone else.

But Overnewton year 10 student Kristen Goodgame said removing internet and mobile phones denied children opportunities to become better educated. She said most children were not bullied online.

“Parents should teach their kids about the dangers,” she said.

The hard times are indeed catching and apparently some of the leading bed manufacturers are not leaving a lot to be said. Linens ‘n Things, a well known bed and furniture store has filed for bankruptcy protection sending mixed signals on the fate of most businesses in the bed industry today.

Rather than take the risk, they have decided to take the safe route out. The decision is understandable and for sure a lot more will follow.

The company said the decision to file for Chapter 11 protection was driven largely by “the impact of the current economic downturn on the company’s operating performance.”

News reports put the company’s debts at $1.42 billion, with assets of $1.74 billion.

Upon the bankruptcy filing, Robert J. DiNicola has resigned as the company’s president and chief executive officer. He will, however, remain chairman of the company’s board of directors.

People never run out of ideas when special occasions come up and apparently Mother’s day is something celebrated world wide. Apparently, there is a familiar fundraising drive called Mattress for Moms that aims to aid flood victims who are in need of bedding. With this drive, new bedding will be distributed by Sharehouse who is holding the said event.

Furniture Sharehouse immediately became an important partner in the flood relief efforts in the hard-hit Sound Shore area by opening a temporary furniture collection and distribution center in Mamaroneck.

In addition, Furniture Sharehouse ran a special Mother’s Day fundraising drive called “Mattresses for Moms” to raise money to purchase bedding for flood families, because the supply of used but usable bedding was not nearly sufficient to meet those needs. More than $15,000 was collected in a little over a week, with special participation by the Hommocks Middle School Student Council, which raised over $1,200 on its own. The proceeds enabled more than 90 brand-new mattresses to be distributed to flood families.

As far as bedrooms are concerned, each time we hear of them, it should normally point towards to rest and sleep. Apparently this is not being the case based on a survey. Bedrooms are associated as well with sex, watching television and reading. Work is likewise inserted in the fray and it makes you wonder where are rest and sleep inside all of these?

Based on a survey, it seems apparent that most people have other use for bedrooms today. There are a lot of factors to consider. Apparently we all lack the proper knowledge to understand what it really is.

A national survey of home life by Ikea found that besides sleeping, the most popular activities in bed are watching TV, having sex and reading. But almost half of Americans (44 percent) said they spend more time working than sleeping on their beds, and more men than women are likely to work while in bed.

The bed is also not a spot for catching up: More than three times as many people – 30 percent – watch TV in bed, rather than talk to their significant other (9 percent).

We all want our babies to be by our side but if you are wise, it would be best to leave them to their cribs for the time being that they are in their infancy stage. This is apparently because more people today fail to realize the danger of possibly lacking in attention as far as baby safety is concerned.

Such problems can be categorized under the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) cases where the rate of babies dying because they are left sleeping beside their parents. Such an issue has been in Lucas County to which they have put together a program for babies where the “Beds for Babies Program” will provide cribs for babies and protect them from being SIDS victims.

“We believe that it is much safer for all babies that are newborns to be properly placed in a crib, because we know that’s the safest place to sleep,” explains Lucas County Board of Commissioners Tina Skeldon Wozniak.

As far as sleeping on bunk beds is concerned, no one can really tell if any real danger exists unless there is some horseplay that would be happening especially around the kids. One thing you have to consider as well is that stuff lying around anywhere can be a hazard to anyone who has a room full of things lying around in all the wrong places.

Bunk beds are often looked upon as great places to sleep on. But that does not mean you should not be aware of all the things around you. For one thing, cleanliness and tidiness are important and if you are not careful you may end up like the son of this man who later on found his kid hanging unconscious from his bed.

Back in 2001, a father in Repentigny walked into his son’s bedroom and witnessed a horrific sight. His 8-year-old boy was hanging unconscious from his bunk bed. The belt of his bathrobe was wrapped around his neck.

The father’s attempt to revive him was unsuccessful and the boy died in hospital.

But wait, you forgot something to consider as well. How about the climate condition? Realistically, when you are sleeping under good climate such as cool weather, chances are you will all the more get lazy. When that happens, you will most likely not want to get up.

This is something expected during Christmas. The temperature is something different and once you find yourself having to shop and buy gifts to give, first of all you should consider getting up from bed.

When we get sick, chances are we cannot simply rely on medicine intake to make us well again. Lying in bed and getting the proper rest for battered bodies together with the common medicine recommended by doctors for fevers or flu is something equally important as well.

Ideally, we would have no choice but to stay in bed in times of feeling something different. We just want to rest and lay our dazed bodies and take naps so that perhaps the next time we open our eyes, we may feel a lot better and carry on with what we may have missed out like work and studies.

Bed buying can be a dilemma at times, especially when you find yourself at a bed store, trying to find out what good bed you can consider to use as the complimentary phase of completing homes is concerned. Ideally, beds would be available in the following forms:

The list goes on and on and chances are, the choice would depend largely on personality and preference of buyers. Bed buying is not the usual shop and shop again. It is a one shot deal for most. The cost is not similar to buying clothes and other normal needs. It really needs proper deliberation and thinking beforehand so choose wisely!

Making your Bed in the Morning

People often refer to bed making as work resigned to women or household help. Most men often just want to lie on bed, sleep and then get up to carry on with their daily routine. While this may not cover all men today, it just goes to show that if you would make a survey on who makes their own bed, chances are women will always standout.

But the scenario may be entirely different if men are living independently. Men who find themselves residing in apartments or own dorms are really left with no choice but to fix their beds since no one will do it for them. Call it something like an act of practicing to be responsible, bed making is really something that men don’t find amusing.

Then again we have to remember. Our practices are indications of our personality. So a messed up bed only shows a disorganized individual altogether. Besides, once night comes, made beds can offer the comfort they always look for so it is really something for them to also enjoy in the end.

In a year, chances are we may encounter times when we would not feel well and prefer to stay in bed. Medicine and other forms of prescribed medication to make us feel better may be in order but nothing beats resting our bodies on our beds to nurse ourselves to complete health once again.

There are people who even go to the extent of simply relying on rest. This holds true for men or women who find them over-exerting themselves through work or any hazardous activity. Some just refuse to take medication since they still believe in getting well through natural means.

In this aspect, we can see that beds are more than just sleeping aids. They nurture our bodies and make sure we are back on our feet in no time after some good time nursing ourselves to full health again.

Bed Blocking in Hospitals

We are all aware that the lack of beds for patients who need to be admitted in hospitals today have to wait in line to be accommodated. While the issue is supposedly about the lack of beds for patients who go to the hospitals, the thing is there may be another side of the problem that exists.

For patients who are lined-up to be admitted this is a given. But for the people who are already lying on the beds, some doctors and physicians seem to have a problem on finding out when they can be discharged to make room for patients who have diagnosed problems.

This is termed as bed blocking for patients who have no problems. Overstaying seems to be like renting out the bed space which could be of use to other more needy patients.

Most hospitals run at 85pc capacity as keeping large numbers of beds empty makes no sense.

But if there are no community placements available, or a residential home is unwilling to take a patient on, the system becomes choked with patients. Add to that a rush of inpatients or a large number of operations and you get gridlock – with people treated in ambulances.

T’is the Season to be Bed Buying

Every time December sets in, people look towards shopping as something that is automatic. Christmas shopping and buying presents for family and friends is the foremost in mind and with that said, why not consider buying a brand new bed while at it?

Surely, all consumer products will be offered at special rates and discounts. Beds are no exception. There will be products that will be selling like crazy and other ones experiencing a lean season. Beds which will surely be taking up room need to go. In a business inventory cycle, it is common practice to dispose as much as possible old stocks to make room for new stocks that will come in by the first quarter of next year.

Besides, good deals are surely to be in store. For sure, rather than seeing beds rotting and left untouched. Rather than let the yearly depreciation feast its way towards the overall value of the bed product, better to sell them while there is some value left in them. That is just the way it is in common business practice and decisions.

Homeless Kids Need Beds Too

We all see kids who have been abandoned and roaming the streets looking for a place to sleep on. Some are even lucky if they make it to foster homes that can accommodate them and provide them beds for proper rest. But you see, not all people are as fortunate as us where we have the luxury of sleeping in high-end and comfortable beds today. We just don’t see that as a benefit until we see people who are making do with open benches or whatever comfortable material they can sleep on when they are in the streets.

There are some people who are aware of this problem and while the effort for some may not be enough, the push to provide bedding to the unfortunate homeless is indeed heartwarming. The efforts usually come from schools, charity and people who are destined to provide assistance to people in need. These beds offered as a form of charity should not be envied. They are really alternative and used ones to which some people may have good use for.

Have you considered donating some bedding as a form of charity lately? Why not try it out. The feeling is really amazing once you do a good deed.

Apparently, some people have this wrong notion that companies have to be big ones to be able to provide quality and quantity in bedding so that profits can be realized. However, there are some people such as H. Thomas Bryant, 60, chief executive of Tempur-Pedic International, who may not have the largest bed manufacturing company but is realizing profits.

True enough, it is all about managing a business. Bedding is something that most people put value in today. While others are busy trying to figure out how many to produce, this group is finding out what people want to buy and where to buy. Not a bad business direction for a profitable business.

Death on a Bunk Bed

The growing number of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) that has been heard from the world today has been alarming. The latest casualty is a 4 year old girl who was surrendered to a foster home. She dies from suffocation in the bunk bed where she was lying on and the social services groups are getting the heat from it.

Apparently there was obvious overlooking and disregard for properly monitoring children placed in foster homes and this has been something that people from Augusta County that want to be resolved. Was it really death on a bunk bed or something else?

Bunk beds are the weirdest way to die of SIDS. Further, SIDS has been known to be a cause for children sleeping alongside their parents. But in a foster home? There is perhaps something more than meets the eye.
