DIY: Pumpcans (Pop Can Jack-O-Lanterns)

Supplies and Cutting Fabric
You will need: 2 – 8″ x 8″ square pieces of fabric (Note: it’s really cute if you use two contrasting patterns) 1 – 4″ x 4″ piece of colored felt (to use as pocket) 1 – small piece of white felt cut in the shape of a tooth (approximately 3″ tall by 2.5″ wide) 10-12″ piece of ribbon to use as hanger for pillow Scissors Needle and embroidery floss (white, brown, blue, or colors of your choice) Pinking shears are optional but add a nice finish to the edge of the pocket. Sewing machine or needle and thread to hand sew. Step One: Cut out your fabric. So you have 2 (even) 8″ squares. I mark mine with a marker and a ruler but you might want to use chalk or a pencil if you’re working with light colors.

DIY: Tooth Fairy Pillow

Before the Wii and the PS3, there was Pac Man and those from my generation will vouch how addictive it was. Hence I love the Pacman pouf which can be made at home by following the directions here.

Material list:
- 15 mm MDF, depending on the size, you will need at least the C-shape to be created from one piece.
- 9 mm multiplex (plywood)
- 32mm*40mm timber (count number needed * height for total length needed)
- larger ones (for example 40mm*40mm) for the corners and block
- upholstery. I used sky to get that leather-look, but it is not so flexible. Mine had already some sliding-stuff on the inside, so it can slide over the foam. If you get other stuff, inform if you need additional stuff.
- cardboard strips. I had special ones, but you can cut some yourself
- staples…. lots!

Equipment needed
- workmate / bench
- Jigsaw
- drill
- drill-bits
- countersink
- screws (about 30mm in length, 3,2*30mm would be ok)
- wood glue (read instructions!)
- needle (curved one special for this type of work) and thread (special sturdy one!)
- sewing machine [if available] (I don’t know if a regular sewing machine is able to get through the upholstery)

- a stapler! (I had a pneumatic one, but an electrical or whatever is a must… I don’t thing the manual ones will be able to enter the MDF deep enough).

Based on a survey, it seems apparent that most people have other use for bedrooms today. There are a lot of factors to consider. Apparently we all lack the proper knowledge to understand what it really is.

A national survey of home life by Ikea found that besides sleeping, the most popular activities in bed are watching TV, having sex and reading. But almost half of Americans (44 percent) said they spend more time working than sleeping on their beds, and more men than women are likely to work while in bed.

Such problems can be categorized under the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) cases where the rate of babies dying because they are left sleeping beside their parents. Such an issue has been in Lucas County to which they have put together a program for babies where the “Beds for Babies Program” will provide cribs for babies and protect them from being SIDS victims.

“We believe that it is much safer for all babies that are newborns to be properly placed in a crib, because we know that’s the safest place to sleep,” explains Lucas County Board of Commissioners Tina Skeldon Wozniak.

But if there are no community placements available, or a residential home is unwilling to take a patient on, the system becomes choked with patients. Add to that a rush of inpatients or a large number of operations and you get gridlock – with people treated in ambulances.

Surely, all consumer products will be offered at special rates and discounts. Beds are no exception. There will be products that will be selling like crazy and other ones experiencing a lean season. Beds which will surely be taking up room need to go. In a business inventory cycle, it is common practice to dispose as much as possible old stocks to make room for new stocks that will come in by the first quarter of next year.

Besides, good deals are surely to be in store. For sure, rather than seeing beds rotting and left untouched. Rather than let the yearly depreciation feast its way towards the overall value of the bed product, better to sell them while there is some value left in them. That is just the way it is in common business practice and decisions.

There are some people who are aware of this problem and while the effort for some may not be enough, the push to provide bedding to the unfortunate homeless is indeed heartwarming. The efforts usually come from schools, charity and people who are destined to provide assistance to people in need. These beds offered as a form of charity should not be envied. They are really alternative and used ones to which some people may have good use for.
