We always support recycling here at Bedzine so don’t go throwing out your wood scraps yet. Instead make a Scrap Table and all you would need is salvaged wood, : five threaded rods, about four bucks each; nuts, washers, and screws; a gallon or so of wood glue; sandpaper; and polyurethane.

Halloween may be long gone but you can still have spooky fun. Float some candles in the air and create the perfect eerie atmosphere.

“The key here is to find the center of gravity of your candle so that you know where you can hang it from. Here I’m holding the candle between two fingers to see if it settles correctly You can also try balancing it on a finger. Now make a mark just slightly above this point. I’m doing this test on a new candle, but I’d recommend letting the candle burn until the flame “settles” inside the candle before doing this. The candle will be burning a little slower here and give you a bit more burn time in the end”.

material:

a very small usb flash drive (e.g. EagleTec USB Nano Flash Drive or Delock USB Nano Memory stick)
(e.g. from http://usb.brando.com/eagletec-usb-nano-flash-drive_p00892c041d15.html)
a corner piece of a Rubik Cube
an edge piece of a Rubik Cube
self-hardening synthetic clay (I used “Apoxie® Sculpt”)
a lip balm stick (I used a ”Labello“)
a small screw (I got mine out of an old dvd player, it’s about ~0.6 mm high)
a washer Ø 1.2 cm
Tiles or stickers (e.g. from cubesmith.com)

tools:

a Dremel (Felt Polishing Wheel, different grinding stones, precision drills) (you don’t have to get a very expensive one, I got mine pretty cheap on ebay)
a small slotted screwdriver (to apply the clay)
sandpaper (400, 800, 1000)
a black permanent marker
a small saw (I used one for metal)
a box cutter

“Most of the tools and supplies are shown in this step. Orange paper, black cardstock, acrylic paints, cutting tools, straight edge, etc. And of course the lights. These are regular Christmas tree lights, found in any dept. or craft store.”

We simply love the Tooth Fairy Pillow as it pays homage to a myth we all have grown up with. You can easily made the pillow at home and this makes a great gift for (or with) a loose-toothed child.

Supplies and Cutting Fabric
You will need: 2 – 8″ x 8″ square pieces of fabric (Note: it’s really cute if you use two contrasting patterns) 1 – 4″ x 4″ piece of colored felt (to use as pocket) 1 – small piece of white felt cut in the shape of a tooth (approximately 3″ tall by 2.5″ wide) 10-12″ piece of ribbon to use as hanger for pillow Scissors Needle and embroidery floss (white, brown, blue, or colors of your choice) Pinking shears are optional but add a nice finish to the edge of the pocket. Sewing machine or needle and thread to hand sew. Step One: Cut out your fabric. So you have 2 (even) 8″ squares. I mark mine with a marker and a ruler but you might want to use chalk or a pencil if you’re working with light colors.

Who doesn’t like using the laptop in the bed? More importantly who doesn’t end up with a back pain when using the laptop in the bed? If you like me also refuse to give up this bad habit, then this DIY will interest you. Learn how to make an ergonomically designed laptop stand for bed and the best part? It will only take you around 30 minutes!

Materials Needed:
-wood strip, .75 in x 1.75 in x 6 ft. Just about anything of the right size will do.
-hard board, MDF board, etc – I used MDF the first time due to the clean white melamine coating, but the plain hardboard looked better and seemed more durable.
-two knobs attached to screws/bolts
-two big washers
-two socket anchors
-2 very short wood screws (for the lip)
-4 medium wood screws (for the legs)
-4 small nails
-4 plastic checker pieces (optional)

Tools:
-circular saw (could use a hand saw, but it’d be messy)
-power drill
-(Optional) dremel w/ sander bit

Make a cool yet affordable LED Desk Lamp by using supplies from Home Depot and IKEA. The lamp has a flexible and adjustable neck that is made from electrical conduit and stiff wire to keep its shape. You can read the entire instructions here and this is what you would require:

Tools:

* Small Philips screwdriver
* Little Pliers (for bending and cutting wire)
* Big Pliers (for cutting through stiff electrical conduit
* Hole punch (not the kind you find in an office, the kind that looks like a screwdriver but with a very sharp end)
* Note: If you have a drill, you can use that instead of the hole punch. If you have a hacksaw or other metal-cutting tool, get that out as well.

Make a simple laptop stand that will keep your laptop cool. It keeps the computer off the surface, gives excellent air circulation and elevates it to a comfortable typing angle and the best part? You don’t need to spend more than 10$!

Here are the materials you’ll need:

1 Metal Mesh Document Holder (I bought mine at Staples for $6, it comes in black or sliver)
1 Roll of Anti-slip shelf liner (bought it at the dollar store)
1 Small block of rubber – This corner piece came in the packaging of my air-conditioner to protect the corners. You can probably find something similar at the hardware or dollar store such as a rubber sandpaper block; just cut the sandpaper sides off.
Glue gun
Double sided tape
Utility blade

Make a cool cardboard chair that is ideal for college students or those who want a cheap seating solution. The chair is based on Frank Gehry’s Wiggle Chair,” popularized in the 1970’s that took advantage of the versatility of cardboard as a medium.

Step 1 Materials and Design!
YOU NEED THIS
- Cardboard – We got all the cardboard we needed at the township’s cardboard recycling dumpster. Look for large pieces, but be careful of double ply and triple ply as they are hard to work with (with our system). FREE!

- Plywood -Two sheets large enough for the chair’s profile. Look for the hardest wood you can find. It needs to stand up against a lot of wear and force! About $40.

- Router -Yes we need powertools! Price varies.

- Bandsaw blades (2 or 3) -Thin blades, look for flat teeth, and about 1in tall. About 25 each.

Make a Rubber Hose Chair and then enjoy it by lounging around the whole day. To make the chair comfortable ensure that there is narrow enough spacing and a tight-enough weave so that weight is evenly distributed. The overall form is quite reclined, with an interior width of about 22″. Assuming the hose is recycled (garden hose would work as well, though it typically is made from thinner rubber), the only other materials are one 2′x 2′ piece of 3/4″ plywood and four 2′ x 1/2″ dia. threaded rods with nuts and washers.

Nothing like falling asleep listening to your favourite tunes. For me it’s always a cathartic experience and hence I loved the homemade Pillow Speaker. Like the commercially available ‘Sound asleep Pillow’, you can plug in any audio device, Ipod, computer, etc and listen to music or watch a film without getting tangled up in earphones.

You will need:

- Pillow & pillow case
- Old headphones, earphones are not ideal but will do
- Female 3.5mm jack connector
- Wire
- Soldering iron
- Solder
- Heat-shrink tubing
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- 2 part epoxy or hot glue

DIY: Harry Potter Wand

It’s hard not to be bitten by the Harry Potter bug now that the latest installment of the movie is here. So we thought you can show your affinity to your favourite wizard by building your own Harry Potter wand.

Step 1 Get a cheap UV marker and key ring LED set
you can get these off the web, or from Amazon. I have searched for them and there are some links on the Magical Wands page of dadcando for the cheapest I could find, but most big office stationers or art shops should stock them.

Step 2 take apart LED keyring
take the LED key ring light apart. take care to see which of the LEDs legs is touching the positive battery terminal, in this case it was the short one. If the leg is bent like this one is, it might need straightening out to fit inside a drinking straw (you’ll see why on a few steps).

The batteries which come with most keyring lights are these CR2016 (that’s 20mm diameter and 1.6mm thickness BTW). I felt that the diameter of 20mm was too much for a wand handle so I looked around for a narrower 6-volt battery. The best I found was the 6V camera battery 4LR44. As all our joins to the battery are going to be by taping the wires on the less batteries we have to join together the better, so a single battery for the whole 6v is what you want.

Tired of how your laptop looks and want to give it a makeover without breaking the bank? Then you will love this DIY project as the end result is a mighty pretty laptop!

step 1 Design the template
Bold designs work best. Try to keep all features larger than 0.150 inches.

This one is designed such that you can cut it from one piece of material and then snaps in the interior pieces to do different layers. Since you never have to remove the first layer, the subsequent layers are already aligned.

If you are going to laser cut the template, make sure your design is in a vector format. Programs such as Adobe Streamline can turn bitmaps into vectors.

DIY: Give a Makeover to Your Laptop

How cute are the Monster Speakers? The best part is no doubt that you can make something like this t home easily. First we need to make a pattern! Get some newspaper and fold and form it over your speakers. Tape helps a lot in this process. And scissors. You will want scissors.

Create seams and darts wherever the paper meets.

Mark where the ‘eye’ and ‘mouth’ openings will be.

* If you are using fur, consider the “nap” – which way the fur is directed. You don’t want one side with the fur going up and one with it going down.

Also make patterns for any add-ons, like wings, feet, etc. You are limited only by your imagination! (more on that in step 7)

Open your pattern flat and straighten any wonky edges with a ruler.

Measure each side to make sure all corresponding seams are the same length. You’d be surprised at how often they aren’t.

BED DIY – How to Make a Bedside In-Wall Shelf!

DIY: Twister Blanket

We all have grown up playing Twister and who didn’t love this crazy game? Now one can even travel with it as you can make your very own Twister Blanket!

Here are the things you need:

* Two yards of white fleece ($8.88)
* Two yards of some other color material, it doesn’t necessarily have to be fleece, and it’s pretty much optional. (I used grey fleece, which was also $8.88)
* Felt. Or you could use some other type of material I guess. You’ll need six circles cut out of each green, red, blue, and yellow.
* Scissors
* A tape measure or something that will help you get all those darn dots lined up.
* A sewing machine and thread. Or I suppose you could hand sew it, but I’m not sure why you would want to. That would be a lot of sewing. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
* Chalk or something to draw on the felt with. I used a pen, but that didn’t work so well.
* Something circular that is the size you want your dots to be. Mine were 6 1/2 inches across.

Get in touch with the creative genius inside you and try your hand at making stained glass objects.

This is what you will need:
-A pattern (find one on the internet, alot of times i can’t find one so i use simple children’s coloring pages for a pattern, or you can just draw your own)
-Safety glasses (glass goes everywhere)
-Gloves (optional- i dont use gloves but i also cut my hands when doing this)
-Glass (you can even use mirror if you like)
-Copper Tape (i use 1/4 in thickness)
-Solder (50% Lead, 50% Tin)
-Flux

Tools:

- bottle caps
- sandpaper (I used 220 grit… the grit isn’t critical)
- hot glue gun
- hot glue sticks
- button magnets (1/2″)
- 1/4″ hex nuts

Make a Rainbow Canopy for your kid’s bedroom and watch theM have the time of their life. Requirements: It needed to be sturdy, flexible, removable, washable, and inexpensive. This is all of those, plus the requested curtains.

It has become a stage, a secret hiding place, a teaching tool (colors!), a toy in and of itself. Oh, and it’s also a bed.

NOTICE: Do not use for a crib-bed that is still in use as a crib. If you want to make this for a non-crib toddler bed, you will have to create your own pattern and customize your frame.

Make beautiful Oriental Paver/Stepping Stones for the garden and who knows maybe you will also get the benefits of feng shui.

step 1Materials Needed

1. Form(s) for the stepping stone

2. Cement, mortar, sand, water, usual concrete items.

3. Buckets

4. Trowels, spreaders, etc.

5. Sponges

6. Cans or measuring cups to measure the various ingredients.

7. Styrofoam or EPS foam (To make letters for the name, message).

9. Hotwire machine…Mighty Goliath! (See my instructable: making the mighty goliath).

10. I Use regular white glue or the tacky kind….either works fine.

“I use stencils found in any craft store. It’s possible to go online, search and find asian flavored lettering as well! For this instructable, I have chosen “Love” as the project, with others shown to supply details.”

Make your own Solar USB charger and show you care about Mother Nature. The DIY USB Charger puts about 6v and is perfect for charging anything that uses USB. This is also perfect for someone new to soldering!

You need the following:
1x USB extension a/a cable
1x Any Diode (RadioShack #: 276-563)
1x 6v Solar panel (RadioShack #: 277-1205 )
Soldering iron(RadioShack #: 64-2051)
Solder
1x Project box (Radioshack #: 270-1803) I would maybe chose a smaller on, I had a bigger one laying around.
Electrical Tape
Glue Gun or tape to hold the peices in place.

Make a beautiful Knitted Sofa Throw by using the basic knit stitch. This throw is made up of 36 six-inch squares and after knitting each square; you can sew each one together alternating the two colors. For this project, the Red Heart yarn in buff and burgundy was used and also a size 10 1/2 knitting needle.

Hot glue gun
Magnets
Small Googly Eyes
Small Pom-Poms
(Optional) Foam for Accessories

step 2 Glue Time!
And now commence gluing.

1. Put a glob of glue on the magnet.
2. Squish the pom-pom forcefully!
3. Slightly fluff out the pom-pom.
4. Glue on googly eyes.

Pocket Sized Lantern

Make your own Pocket Sized Lantern and battle power cuts with style. It can also act as a portable source of light and it doesn’t require battery.

Step 1 Things you’ll need:
1. Jar: Here I used a small jar of jam from some airline. The only real requirement is that the jar has a metal lid. Ideally use only those jars with no paint on the lid if you want to avoid unpleasant fumes.

2. Wick: I happened to have a wick from an old lantern that was lying around, but you could just as easily use a shoelace (plastic ends cut off) or any rolled up piece of cloth. *TIP* You’ll want to use 100% cotton shoelaces, not synthetic. Synthetic will melt instead of burn and could lead to serious injuries. Thanks to user “Sedition”

3. Knife: I used my Leatherman c305 to cut a hole in the lid of the jar.

4. Lamp Oil: This will be used.

DIY: PVC Elevated Dog Bed

Make a PVC Elevated Dog Bed so that your dog can lounge in style. Here are all the pieces you will need.

Depending on the size or your pet, you may have to modify to a larger size or add an additional brace in the middle using a “T” joint.

3/4″ pvc pipe – length will vary depending on the measurement you take for your pet. I just bought two full length pipes 6′ long.

Cut two pieces 26 1/2″ long
Cut two pieces 19 1/2″ long

1/2″ pvc pipe – 24″ long

Cut 4 pieces 6″ each.

4 – corner joints 3/4″ with 1/2″ threaded female
4 – 1/2″ male threaded slip caps
4 – 1/2″ slip end caps

“I had a old quilt folded on the floor for him but he would mess it up each night, it would also get a little dangerous if i needed to get up in the dark. So this idea came from changing over our bed pillows again. So, I used 4 old pillows in total. I used a sewing machine and also a needle and thread and come Velcro”.

Quick and easy you need to run 2 cables and make sure you don’t cross them over at any point or it’ll get messy
