Here is a new kind of table design that should attract the MAC geeks. As the Mac Tablet is being wooed to come out soon, what better way to time the unveiling of this Tablet Mac Coffee Table? Besides, we have seen an iPhone Coffee Table so why not a Mac Tablet? It takes its brains from an old iBook G4 laptop built underneath the 37” LCD flat panel screen. It is not a touchscreen LCD and for interface, six tactile control buttons built from cheap six-button joypads were used for navigational purposes. It even comes with a DVD loading slot underneath!

It’s all built into a sturdy steel-framed table with a thick tempered glass tabletop to protect the screen from spills and other damage. Certainly a geeky piece of furniture any techie would want to have in his home or room.

If there is one thing that people would not perhaps consider, that would have to be integrating a PC into some furniture. There are some people, especially the geeks who would think of it, but here is one customized accordingly to actually accommodate a modern PC case.

The idea was designed by Jeffrey Stephenson. The black walnut mission-style side table is actually a full-blown PC in disguise, with a standard ATX mid-tower within that’s equipped with an Intel Core i7 CPU, NVIDIA graphics and dual stage temperature-controlled exhaust fans.

For the PC geeks or individuals who can’t seem to live without a PC around them, this may be an ideal blend for their surroundings. Wacky as it may seem, this Mission-style PC casemod will be released this Spring.

We often find the need for outlets or cord extensions to address the electricity requirements of our devices and gadgets. This table may be able to resolve all that. It was really mean to serve as an easy association on what the table really is. Designed by Matthew Warren and Scott Behr of Total Metal Resource, Inc. (TMRnyc), the Electrified Blue Table aims to provide a neat solution for the range of plugs necessary to power the gadgets we use on a daily basis, including laptops, hard drives, cellphones, music players or guitar amps.

The table has plugs on its sides and on the feet. The main aim behind designing this table was electrifying the furniture, so that it becomes truly functional and not just pretty. When we talk of design, it’s just plain. The electrified table is a steel frame, which is lacquered with a light blue graffiti-like spray paint. As they have said, I don’t think this table would be fun, but yes, it’s highly functional.

This table is a direct answer to Behr’s goal of making furniture a part of our environment that interface with technology and the devices that we interact with on a daily basis. The Electrified Blue Table is simply great on concept and I think it makes for a great DIY project. It is scheduled to appear at BKLYN DESIGNS in less than a month.

We all hear about the fast pace of technology. We see it on how our children grasp the use of computers and one thing that we may soon see is that of modern furniture or study tables that offer a more private and sensual concept.

This internet terminal “Easy Net Space” reminds us of the Globus Artifort Workstation – it rather looks like a bad copy of the earlier, but we thought it deserves a mention for obvious reasons.

This one is actually meant for commercial use: for hotels and offices. The pod-shaped internet terminal is actually a nice one for internet cafes and offices. It features a 19 “TFT screen with integrated speakers, illuminated keyboard and optical mouse.

The terminal is available in three colors: red, silver and black with red upholstery. The design for sure looks futuristic, as they claim. The price is not yet known.

His love for galvanised steel screws and flat-pack garden furniture aside, Matteo, 30, had to pass three tests before he was allowed to work for the family firm. The brand has been around for nearly 90 years, and is still very much a family business, but the company has applied strict rules to the employment of anyone bearing its name.

Matteo is the only one of his 15-strong generation who works for the family firm. He gained his Master’s degree (rule one), learnt a second language (rule two) and worked for another company for two years (rule three) before he was embraced by his elders.

In times where people cannot find the right furniture to suit their home needs, there are some who have the talent to create such with the right vision and craft. Such was the story of one Bruce Marsh who made first few pieces some years ago when he was not able to find the suitable ready made furniture.

Now as it turns out, discovering the talent of making your own furniture has enabled Marsh to go into business, accepting orders that are handmade. Among the home furniture being ordered from him include chairs, benches, beds and tables. Most of them are available at his website.

He works in hardwoods like walnut, teak and oak, most of which come from managed forests, and uses water-based finishes. The Townsend Split Table (right) has a top of inch-thick hand-hewn planks and comes in a choice of woods and sizes. A walnut table 36 inches by 96 inches that seats 10 is $1,250; in rosewood, it is $1,950.

This rectangular, 30 inch high and 48 inch wide table is made of ebonised wood and is set with gilt bronze and crystal, while the top is veneered in shagreen.

Crazy James Bond Interior Designs for Condo Studio Owners

For the people who are not familiar with James Bond, this international spy always comes up with great gadgets and unique designs to help assist the movie quality. At one point this aqua studio home which brings back memories of the first movies that starred Roger Moore, “The Spy Who Love Me”, may be an old film but it can fit well as far as getting new ideas for your future home, particularly if you are living in studio condo units.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that this unusual retro-modern home should belong to Pierre Cardin. The Italian-born French designer, now 86, is renowned for his avant-garde style and his space-age designs in the Sixties.

Geometric shapes and prints in strong monochromes are found throughout his work and the interior design of his bubble on the sea reflects this sensibility, with black-and-white optical fabrics featured throughout.

This cool Sixties aesthetic is picked up elsewhere with iconic pieces like Verner Panton’s Fun table lamp, made from mother of pearl, and the curved lines of the television.

Making New Furniture out of Old Homes or Barns

Raw materials in making furniture do not need to come from current or new resources. We see old homes that are normally torn down in lieu of a new one and the scraps or the old wood that normally comes down with it are surely to be of use if you think about it.

Call it a matter of recycling and putting ingenuity into place, old home materials can be used to make new furniture. In fact, if you think about it, newly made woodworks such as tables or chairs may eventually look like they have been around for some years now. All it takes is to put them together and create a finished product out of recycled wood.

Fogg says that 15 percent to 20 percent of the wood he uses is recycled from old homes and barns.

Out of this fir, yellow pine and other enduring wood, he makes something new, but always with an eye on the simple elegance of the American past.

“The idea,” he said, pointing to his newly finished table, “is to make furniture that looks like it’s been around for 200 years.”

Making New Furniture out of Old Homes or Barns

Icon Designs from Eileen Gray

Eileen Gray is a known name in the furniture design business. She has given a new meaning towards conceptualization and design and a lot of it were introduced in the market in the 1900’s. During these times, modern furniture designs were conceived as mechanical and were it not for the vested interest of one Andre Putman, perhaps none of us would see the contemporary designs that are sure hits today.

The appreciation of Gray’s performance back then were perhaps not seen as the tomorrow of modern design. Today however, we can see similarities of her concepts and then some, which are surely ideal stuff that anyone would want in their homes today.

She designed a new range of furniture for the home and in line with the Bauhaus and Modernists’ philosophies, moved away from creating exclusive, one-off pieces, instead preferring to create furniture that was simple, refined and functional and that allowed for mass production.

One small table in particular, called the E-1027, is one of Gray’s most recognised pieces. Also the name Gray gave to her San Tropez house, the E-1027 was small, round and amazingly versatile and, today is considered one of the icons of modern design. She also designed chairs, settees, desks and storage units for her home.

Sadly, her clients initially shunned Gray’s new direction and interest in her work waned. Just before her death, however, Andre Putman, a prominent French designer, revived interest in Gray’s designs and obtained a licence to manufacture several of them. Exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York followed.
