The Hazards of an Inflatable Bed

This is the season where most people would have to make room and beds for visitors such as relatives and friends who may want to sleep over. And one of the keen bed alternatives we know of are the inflatable beds that are handy and often kept in storage, only to be taken out when needed such as seasons as now.

But while that is a good solution, make sure you are aware of avoiding having babies and kids sleeping on them. They have some health hazards you should watch out and if you are not careful, you may end up experiencing tragedies rather than sweet sleep for the holidays.

“The danger arises when they are used for babies and infants aged under the recommended age, and in particular babies and infants less than 12 months old,” he said.

“It is important that an infant’s face must not come in direct contact with the mattress or side of a bed.”

Gaps between the side of a bed and the mattress can also entrap a child’s head.

“When very young children are in a dangerous position they may not have the strength to reposition themselves as an older child would. This can cause suffocation, whether the contacting surface is made of plastic or fabric.”

Here is something for the people who have an issue with bed and sleep. Apparently the best way to understand how to get great sleep is where they would lay on. We have seen dozens of beds which boast of various qualities and why they should be considered over the standard beds we see in the shops today but know little on why we should do so.

Royal Mattress has taken the initiative to hold a series of sleep clinics at the company’s Burlington factory on June 5 at 7p.m. This will allow people who have a question or two to get acquainted on the value of beds and why they should be categorized as such.

Royal Mattress is teaming up with Dr. Howard Awad of the Oakville Sleep Medicine Centre for the public educational sessions. He will address sleep issues and concerns like insomnia, snoring and sleep apnea.

The topic for the first sleep clinic will be snoring.

Hell-bent on making a stand in pushing for safer bedding to the consumers of today, the latest bill that is scheduled to be mobilized by the International Sleep Products Association is being pegged to pose problems and provide stiffer standards for bed manufacturers as far as fire hazards and overall safety is concerned.

Beds have been identified as potential fire hazards and most organizations such as the ISPA are laying down the law to provide their welfare and being. For bed manufacturers, such standards are overkills but considering that safety is one primary concern for distributed products, it should be something that must be truly emphasized as well.

iCoil Mattress Technology vs. Bonnell Springs: What’s Inside?

Responding to an ad for blow out sale on a mattress, in the newspaper or on tv, might deliver a very unpleasant shopping experience.

Most of the mattresses advertised this way are bonnell spring mattresses and the dealer wants to attract you into the store with the cheap sounding price tag.

These mattresses are really cheap to manufacture, so lots of dealers use them as bait, in huge newspaper or tv ads, to get you into the store.

Of course, once you’re in the store, they pull the old bait and switch on you. They’ll tell you how crummy the cheap mattresses are and try to up sell you to one of the higher priced bonnell spring mattresses.

The reason bonnell spring mattresses are so cheap is because the springs are all tied together and then surrounded by a hard wire. This wire runs around the outside edge of the mattress to hold it in shape. This wire is so rigid and unforgiving that when you sleep out toward the edge of the bed, you’ll definitely feel it under you and it’s not a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Bonnell springs are hour glass shaped and they’re tied back to themselves at the top and bottom. There’s one glaring problem with this design, since all the springs are tied together, what happens on one side of the mattress directly affects what happens on the other side.

When someone flops into bed, you can be jolted clear up off your side of the bed. It’s what is known as motion transfer.

The reason for this is the iCoil mattress technology. The coils are much smaller, so there are many more of them. They’re encased separately, so that compressing one coil doesn’t affect the one’s surrounding it. There’s, virtually, no motion transfer.

Remember, motion transfer is a big deal if you sleep with someone who tosses and turns at night. When they flop down, you go up and vice versa. It’s like riding a bucking bronco in your sleep.

Another problem, with bonnell spring mattresses, is the valley. Two people sleeping close to each other will create a valley that they both roll into, colliding in the middle. This is called meeting in the valley and it isn’t a pleasant way to spend the night. If you roll into each other, in the middle of the night, you know you can’t roll back uphill to try and get to your side of the bed, you’re stuck.

This is a new technology and it seems to be a big improvement over the old technology.

Some (mostly Chinese) would say that it is no good to have mirror in your bedroom. It is deemed to be of bad Feng Shui. I am rather the superstitious type. Every morning, by the time I drag my fat flabby ars* out of bed, I would look like the Grinch, worse . .. with a sleepy look still in my eyes, and probably some pimples on my nose.

I have been seeing in commercials today on AD Television this offering of air beds that can be put up in a matter of minutes. While they may sound interesting, the fact remains, are they worth the investment? They do beat the price of purchasing the usual foam or wool made beds but the thing that comes to mind is their durability and reliability.

One has to wonder how people can fall and purchase such beds without further deliberation. For people who want value for their money, air beds may be a good investment but the fact remains, are they better substitutes to the normal beds we lay on today?

Based on some feedbacks from people who have bought them already, they are good for some time only. Unlike the common beds we use today, they will not last a lifetime. They are new trends in technology but unless they can adhere to the overall expectations of being used for longer periods, chances are there are still needed rooms for improvement for them. So be careful and check out the way they were manufactured beforehand.

Imagine when you are asleep and the bed is hovering.. sounds spooky isn’t it? Thanks to illusionists Lago and scientists Universe Architecture, flying beds are a reality now. It is not flying technically, as its considered just floating. Technically the bed is fixed to the wall and has a central leg but I dont think my friend Mike (who weighs 130 kilos in weight) will feel safe on this bed.

The Problem with Getting Up From Bed

On the other side of the fence regarding sleeping, there is also another problem with getting to comfortable in the sleeping habits or position we may find ourselves. This entails problems getting up. Lying in the confides of our own beds may tend to go overboard at times and this would usually ensue when we are at very comfortable position. We sometimes want to forego going up, getting to a point of being too lazy to do anything at all.

Hence, sleeping in our own ideal beds may have its after-effects and getting up to go on with our usual routine is something that many people just have a problem handling. Such a dilemma should not be solely focused on the area of having good beds to lie on. People also have to consider the mental aspect of disciplining themselves to get up on time and carry out the usual routine of their lives.

Getting too comfortable may indeed is an issue. But then again, all pleasurable moments have to come to an end. For people finding they lying on beds, there comes a time where they must get up. Otherwise, their whole life may gear towards a change to something undesirable such as perhaps getting into trouble at school or work because of tardiness.

For most people, bed designs can go as far as outrageous to envious unique designs. The idea is quite simple. These bed ideas are usually the ones that come up when a person wants to be creative and give overall convenience a new name.

Many would agree that bed designs have various tastes. For most people, being unique is a privilege that only a few would have. Designs can vary such as shape, add-ons and finish. But underneath it all, it is the convenience from using beds that will be the most important matter for most.

Hence, anyone is free to design their own ideal bed design. It may not sit well with other but the thing is, they are something that separates ideas of comfort. Beds will come in any form today. Ideally, having a unique design provides creative people the bragging rights that they truly deserve.

Away with the foam and cotton fillings and enter the fluid type of bed makes called waterbeds. They may feel different, but the idea is that it can be similar to laying down on a mass of fluid that is concentrated to form one whole mass of space to which people can rest their bodies on a body of fixed liquid proportions.

Most people are curious at how it would be to use waterbeds in lieu of the usual forms of beds. But one question remains, after curiosity, would waterbeds be the ideal place to lie down on? For some, it may be the case, even for just a few moments or even days. But overall, the setup may be weird for some since waterbeds are not usually a common site they would see in conservative and low profile living homes.

But beware; pointed and sharp objects must be avoided. A close touch of such would eventually lead to leaks and discharge of water which may become messy. This is perhaps one disadvantage that waterbeds have. Leaks are added stressful measures towards the concept of overall relaxation.

Would You Sleep in A Hammock?

Hammocks may be known to be temporary hanging forms of beds for people who in open air spaces. For some however, the reality is that they use these hammocks as a form of bed as well, especially if they are outdoors or roughing it in a sense.

Hammocks may not be the best form of ideal beds that anyone can resign to, but overall, they are actually the best means to enjoy a different kind of hanging around thing where they can cradle themselves to sleep between two strong posts to where they are usually tied.

People find themselves sleeping like babies, probably because its swaying motion likens it to like a crib where babies would usually cradle themselves to sleep. In modern private homes and residences, this may not be the case. However, there may be exceptions to this, especially for people who cater to different types of lifestyles and sleeping styles.

So for people who would initially find those looking for the various rooms in a house or residential unit, one of the common rooms to look out for would be the bedroom. Why? Well for one thing, this is where a person needs to be when he wants to unwind, relax and rest his body.

The space allocation is an important thing as well. This will be the basis for a person in his journey towards determining the proper bed size to place in the area. For sure, not all beds would be of the same size to take up the entire space. Beds are only one part of the bedroom conceptualization. Other fixtures such as lamps, lighting, tables, and even chairs or sofas have to be put in the mix.

Hence, for any room, the need to calculate space requirements is a need. Beds can always come tailor made for any space given. It all boils down to how large or small it has to become a perfect fit for the bedroom.

Longing to be by your bed is perhaps one of the cravings of any burned out individual but it does not all stop there. The wrong notion is that people think that foam thickness, materials used and the bed dimensions are the only important aspects of choosing the proper bed to relax on. There is the matter of bed sheets as well, something that can make up for the shortcomings of beds owned that do not provide the usual comfort people always look for.

The thing is, bed sheets are also made from various materials that can be very relaxing to the human body. Cotton, fiber or wool, the bed sheets complement the whole idea of bed rest. They are the protection of beds that would usually not have the complete idea of relaxation at its finest.

Covers may come in different designs as well. We are all aware that the ambiance and mood that things we see have a psychological affect on us. It all boils down to selecting the proper design which we can call appealing to our eyes and soon towards the human body.

Bed sheets may come in all sizes and designs. But the thing is that it would all depend on how we visualize relaxation. It is not a matter of pure bed coverings. It is also about rejuvenation at its best.

Sofas Will Do … For Now …

Pressed for time and with limited resources available, people have to find some means of being able to lie down and get some shuteye before the new day begins. Some have to improvise when such instances where beds are insolvent and perhaps through couches or sofas, some form of sleep can be grabbed for the time being. Nothing beats hitting the mattresses for a comfortable and leisurely sleep. Being able to spread your body to any position that a person would want summarizes what it means to have a complete and adequate bed rest. But for some, the sight of an alternative means of being able to lay down at a moment’s request would truly make everything towards having limited options available.

There are the usual sleep sofas that can do the work, but considering their high cost of purchase, people may most likely end up preferring a conventional sofa in lieu of it. Practicality is the name of the game and sleep, something that some people would not give much importance until they start to become weak or ill, will always be a need for productive people in any genre.

Hence, sofas may be a temporary alternative. Beds will still be the preferred object for proper sleeping habits. People would be foolish not to acknowledge this since their health is an essential part of where sleep is concerned about.
