Bed Bugs on the Rise…Hypoallergenic Mattresses the Way Forward

Recent research has shown that there has been a massive increase in the number of bed bug infestions according to Bed Bugs Limited. Statistics gathered by councils across London and Midlands show that there has been a three fold rise in the past 10 years.

Bed bugs are reddish-brown insects that usually hide in mattresses and can breed at a quick rate, they survive by sucking blood, mainly at night. They can also be easily spread to clothes, bags and other furniture.

Although they don’t carry diseases, when bittedn by a bed bug it can cause itchy swelling. You can spot a bed bug on sheets by looking for black dots, which is the faeces of the bug, and also small spots of blood. Regularly changing your sheets can help reduce the risk of bed bugs, but you can also get rid of them completely by buying a hypoallergenic mattress or divan bed.

The hypoallergenic fillings within some of our mattresses and divan beds mean bed bugs cannot survive, and in particular memory foam mattresses and latex foam mattresses reduce the risk of bed bugs because they cannot breathe within the foam and therefore cannot breed.

According to recent research from the Flinders University Sleep Research Laboratory in Australia chronic insomnia is directly related to core body temperature. The research is helping to get to the core of sleep problems worldwide, with the discovery that body temperature has a vital role in the onset of sleep.

Temperature regulation has been found to be a significant factor in insomnia. One comfortable way to regulate body temperature throughout the night is with a ChiliPad created by ChiliTechnology, LLC. The ChiliPad is a mattress pad with both heating and cooling functions, that allows you to cool and warm your bed from 48 to 118 degrees (research shows that people sleep best between 60-68F)

Click 4 Beds Appears on 60 Minute Makeover

If you watch ITV1’s 60 Minute Makeover, you might have noticed Click 4 Beds was mentioned as one of the show’s suppliers in the new series. On Thursday 10th September, Click 4 Beds appeared on the show after donating a super king size bed for the Bromley, Kent episode of the new series.

Click 4 Beds gave 60 Minute Makeover the OBC Marseille Metal Bed Frame for the main bedroom. The OBC Marseille is a ivory metal bed frame made from cast metal with a glossy finish. It is inspired by a French style, and has an arched top rail on the head and footend with moulded detail, and each post is finished with a finial.

The episode that Click 4 Beds donated a bed for featured Isadora who had suffered from health problems since retiring as a midwife and her daughters decided she needed cheering up, and that a suprise home makeover would be just what she needed.

The 60 Minute Makeover team said: “We have really appreciated your support throughout – thank you so much for all your help and for being so great to deal with. I hope you agree that your products worked well within the makeover.”

Click 4 Bed’s sister company Distinctive Chesterfields, a supplier of authentic original Chesterfield sofas, has also previously donated 60 Minute Makeover with a traditional wing chair in May 2009 for series six.

Whilst updating the Click 4 Beds website recently we found out that the Joseph Coto metal bed frame is soon to be discontinued, this also means we only have a very limited stock until it runs out. Thee Joseph Coto is a lovely metal bed with a very pretty design that’s simple and versatile.

It has a truly unique design and features alternate square and round corners on its head and foot ends, and is traversed by dark cherry style bed rails. A silver in finish to the frame and a low slung bed frame makes it like very few beds on the market today.

Since this is such a unique bed, we thought we would suggest some similar looking beds that are just as modern as the Joseph Della.

Updating the products on the Click 4 Beds website we found out that the
Joseph Molla is to be discontinued soon.

It’s a real shame because it’s such as unique and dramatic bed that has a very individual design. It has a super high headboard and a curved rectangular box steel rail that curves over the perimeter edges of the bed. These seamlessly meet the floor rails and return on skids rather than conventional legs to the head end leg area.

Birlea Montana – from £309
Although not as imposing in its appearance, the Birlea Montana combines the black and silver metal finish with a linear and square design with head and foot slats that create the modern and stylish design.

Joseph Arizona – from £459
With its black and silver metal frame, the Joseph Arizona has a very similar design and style, although not as dramatic, it has the a very similar contemporary design that adds a touch of glamour to any bedroom.

Maintaining the Click 4 Beds website we found that while checking through our product updates from manufacturers that the Joseph Montana is to be discontinued soon. It’s quite a unique metal bed that has a black metal and dark wooden frame, and is really beautiful in modern bedrooms.

While updating the products on our website we found that the Joseph Kinda is to be discontinued.

The Joseph Kinda is a popular style of bed and has a really versatile design with cleana and simple lines with oak wood and silver metal finishing. The low foot and head ends make it a really modern bed.

Since it’s such a versatile bed, we thought that suggesting some alternative beds would be a good idea, so that our customers don’t have to worry about finding another one similer.

The Birlea Tetras has the same wooden finish and silver detailing, and is just as modern and stylish…it’s also quite a bit cheaper, but it does have slatted ends rather than solid. Another similar bed that isn’t as expensive is the Heartlands Amber that also has the wood and silver design, and a slatted head and foot end.

For a slight twist on the desin, the Heartlands Wiltshire has more wooden features than the other two and a verry square design.

And thanks to the Stern Environment Group, a new device may lead us towards properly monitoring the presence and behavior of these cursed bed bugs through their monitoring device, the NighWatch Bed Bug Monitors.

There are several types of bed bug monitors and the prices range widely from $5 to $1,000. Some of the most interesting new products are NightWatch from BioSensory, CDC 3000 by Cimex Science, soon to be released BB Alert Active from MIDMOS, Climbup Insect Interceptor from Susan McKnight Inc., and the Bug Dome for bed bugs by Silvandersson under the name of Silvatronic.

We’re always updating our website and making sure we provide the best service to our customers. Maintaining our products is key to ensure we keep out customers updated and while updating our products we discovered that the Joseph Anica is to be discontinued.

It’s a rather unique looking bed with a silver metal frame and white head end, it’s pretty slick and modern and there aren’t that many similar beds around, which makes it a real shame.

Saying that, we had a good look at our entire product range and found some similar looking beds to suggest to our customers. Joseph actually do similar beds and the Joseph Kava has the same modern style with a silver metal frame but features a dark head end.

If the darker wood doesn’t suit your bedroom, you may like the Joseph Arizona with its silver metal frame and black base.

You may also be interested in the Hyder Manhattan, although it doesn’t have the extra head detailing, it has a modern silver frame and a simple but contemporary design.

While updating the products on our website we found that unfortunately the Joseph Morroco will be being discontinued soon. It’s a really pretty wooden bed with a simple curved design that has just enough detail without going over the top. It’s also extremely well priced considering the excellent quality.

Since the Joseph Morroco is one of our most popular beds, we thought it would be useful for us to recommend some similar beds to our customers.

If it’s bed by Joseph you particularly want, the Joseph Aborro is new for 2009 and has a similar oak finish with some slight detailing, although it does have a linear design rather than curved. Another suggested bed from this manufacturer is the Joseph Elle, again it is finished with the same oak and this one has the curved design, but features slatted head and foot ends rather than solid.

We’d also recommend the Birlea Kendall, as it has an oak finish a beautiful curved style, although it doesn’t have any detailing and is quite a simple design.

You should also have a browse through our wooden bed range and maybe something else will catch your eye, we have a fantastic selection of different wooden bed styles, all at great prices.

We recently found out that Dreamworks will be discontinuing the Dreamworks Venice soon, which is a real shame as it’s a stunning wooden bed that is very imposing in its stance.

With this in mind we thought we’d suggest some alternatives to our customers just in case they miss out on this beautiful bed.

If it’s the style of the bed that you really admire then the Sweet Dreams Pacino may suit you with its dramatic design, although it has a mahogany finish the colour is that different and it’s cheaper. We recently started selling the beautiful Birlea range on our website and they’ve proven to be extremely popular with our customers. To be honest, we’re not suprised by their popularity.

One of my pet peeves is wires and how they creep up everywhere. While wires are a necessary evil there are always ways to make sure they don’t dominate a living space.
