Color Study Quilts by Dainty Time

Build a Felt Sliding Door for your apartment and say goodbye to old bulky doors. Here is a list of things you would need for this endeavor:

Ingredients:
• 1/2 inch white wool felt from Sutherland Felt Company @ $75 a yard
• Hospital track, endcaps and rolling hooks from MedicalProductsDirect.com
• Thick brown leather from a place on Bleecker Street that charged me too much
• White spray paint
• Silicone spray

1. Measure your doorway and order your felt large enough for both panels to more than cover the opening both side to side and up and down. It comes 72″ wide so you are in the best shape if you only have to buy one length and have them cut it down the middle for two 3′ wide pieces.

2. Order your hospital track to all felt door to slide out to the side in both directions. It only comes in silver, but don’t worry, you can paint it.

3. Mount your track on the ceiling and as tight to the door as possible so that the felt will hug the opening.

4. Insert end caps and rolling hooks. Spray with silicone to ease movement.

5. Masking off area around track, spray with white paint to blend in with ceiling.

6. Hold up felt and measure to fit.

7. Trim felt down with eXacto knife.

8. Using 1/4″ drill bit, drill holes in top of felt about 1″ down and 3″ apart. Also drill holes for leather handles as well.

9. Stitch leather handle on with leather thong.

At least that is perhaps the message that Japan manufacturer Sanrio is trying to send across when it introduced this iRobot like home cleaning contraption called the Hello Kitty Roomba Robot.

So for the people out there, particularly the women and fans of Hello Kitty, here is a neat device you should really have. Clean homes are what most of us want and here is another gadget that can surely make it happen.

It is expected to hit the market by September 30 and has been priced at $800.

Roomba, a product of the cool-sounding iRobot company, is a self-contained robotic vacuum that patrols your home or apartment in search of dust and dirt. Like all roombas, the vacuum cleaner employs sensors to help it avoid stairs and, basically, is one of the only Jetson-ish home appliances to ever successfully cross the line from cartoons to reality.

There are a lot of people who have already taken the initiative and one of the notable green designs would have to be the interior design concept of the Westfield Bloom Kitchen designed by Shari Stein.

According to Stein, eco-friendly rooms tend to use fewer materials, and whatever is used is more environmentally sustainable. This is especially important since a lot of waste ends up in a landfill after a home or apartment is renovated, she said.

Green interior design can also produce health benefits, Stein said, adding that she researches manufacturers and tries to avoid carpeting, wallpaper and paint that contain or emit toxins.

She also tries to use materials that are produced closer to home. “If you’re getting an exotic wood from Africa, they would take more embodied energy to bring it here,” she said. “You want to find things that are local to the area.”
