Italian company Offi has teamed up with Creative Origins to bring a collection of pillows designed by Michael Roman. Born and raised in greater Los Angeles, Roman moved to New York’s lower east side in the mid-70′s. There, he received a great deal of inspiration in what would become his passion for screen art, combining Andy Warhol’s techniques with old school methods which has become known as “Latinissmo”. Avoiding the sterilized look which is so common, his hand wrought artwork appears as unique and imperfect as life itself. It’s more of an artwork than a bed…

This was one of the first objects I made while at college, up until then I’d just worked on flat two dimensional work. The theme of ‘the body’ seemed to evolve naturally. Not just my body, but also the body of objects. This theme can be seen in ‘Bed’ where I used my own body as a template for the mattress, but also in Toothbrush Case and Bird Cage.
