Having had enough of these despicable bed bugs and the failure of the Aaron Rents Administration to properly observe hygiene and care for their tenants, Aaron Rents is not facing a $250,000 lawsuit in damages from the inconvenience that they have suffered from such ignorant management proceedings.

Bed bugs do indeed make life miserable and while moving was supposedly a good alternate solution, it seems that wherever they go, these bed bugs have followed them.

Next time you are traveling, do keep these points in consideration by the experts at Harvard University School of Public Health; Orkin, Inc.; the University of Tennessee and bedbugresource.com. They warn users about the dangers of bed bugs and also give tips on how to avoid those little buggers.

* When traveling, inspect your hotel room by examining mattress tufts and folds, bed frames, headboards, carpets, drapes, desk drawers and behind picture frames. Look either for the bugs themselves, their fecal deposits (dark brown or reddish spots) or their cast-off skins. Equipped with stink glands, bed bugs in large numbers can also be detected by the coriander-like odor they emit.

* Because many people exhibit a delayed reaction of several days — or none at all — after being bitten, small blood stains observed on sheets can be the only immediate indication of the presence of bed bugs.

* Keep your clothes in your suitcases rather than in dresser drawers, and thoroughly inspect them before — and after — returning home. Bed bugs have even been known to park themselves in between the teeth of unzipped zippers. When you return home, launder your clothes in hot water and dry them with high heat. Vacuum your suitcases.

* Don’t purchase used mattresses or other furniture without a thorough inspection.

* At home, consider encasing your mattress and box springs with special plastic bags that trap the bugs inside, where they eventually will die. Keep furniture away from walls and baseboards. Some people even place bed-frame legs in dishes of mineral oil to foil those trying to climb up to the bed.

* Caulk and seal all holes where pipes and wires enter the walls or floors.

* Do not try to eradicate an infestation yourself. If treated incorrectly, bed bugs can spread, go dormant or grow resistant to the pesticide used. Even with professional exterminations, it can take multiple visits over several months to rid your residence of them.

The first step in control is to eliminate the possibility of bed bugs physically climbing over a mattress or bed to feed. Pull the bed away from shelving or the wall and coat the legs of the bed with a band of Vaseline or mineral oil about 2 inches wide. Use effective means to prevent or exclude bed bugs from the sleeping area. This could include keeping a zone around the bed “bed bug-free”by careful examination and removal of bed bugs and by caulking cracks and by placing a barrier of chalk or silica aerogel around the bed at floor level. Double-sided carpet tape may be effective in trapping bed bugs and excluding them from sleeping areas.

A 54 year old woman from New York is suing a New York hotel after receiving over 600 bed bug bites. Ouch!

Next time, make sure you check your bed before falling asleep!

A Chicago woman is suing a New York hotel for $20 million after she woke up in her bed with moreover 600 bed bug bites.

Leslie Fox, a 54 year-old booking agent, said that after spending four nights last July at the Nevele Hotel in Ellenville, New York, she woke up with red, irritated, itchy welts all over her body.

“My body felt as if it was on fire. I just wanted to tear it off!”

“I had no idea what was happening to me. We noticed the blood on the bed. I became very upset and alarmed,” she said.

Her husband was also bitten, but it was not nearly as severe as his wife’s.

The bugs were sent to teh UIC lab and were found to in-fact be bed bugs.
