Well apparently, these are the main factors that can allow your bedroom to serve its purpose when it comes to respite and a place where you can easily relax.

So if you are in the dark with nothing in mind, perhaps these tips from Calico Corner can assist you create the alluring bedroom truly meant for you:

1. Have lovely soft fabrics and textures on your bed–velvets, chenilles, soft silks, faux suedes, silky cottons, puffy matelassés, quilted textures and down comforters.

2. Make a statement in the bedroom with either the bed or the fabric chosen for the bed and decor.

3. Add an upholstered bench at the foot of the bed. It’s the perfect place to put on shoes, to place a duvet or bedspread at night, to put a pretty throw or extra pillows.

4. If space permits, create a sitting area with chairs and an ottoman, chaise or small sofa or loveseat.

5. Add beautiful window treatments to balance the bed visually and soften the architecture of the room…plus furnish privacy and light control.

The Birdie Stamp Tapestry Bedspread

Beds originating from the 19th century times are sure to be a prized find. Some are still well-kept but for artist Rebecca Belmore, adding some new thing towards this classic four-poster bed with a canopy on top is bound to bring back ancient memories which we only get to see in the movies.

The bed is a classic four-poster with a canopy, exactly the kind you might see in the bedroom of an early 19th-century colonial gentlemen.

In this case, the bed was the kind once found in The Grange, the first home of the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. In the hands of artist Rebecca Belmore, the bed was modified – aboriginized you might say. She added human hair on the bedspread and beaver pelts on the canopy.

The bed was the centrepiece for Wild in 2001. In the performance, Belmore showed up unexpectedly at the gallery on Saturday afternoons and slipped under the covers.

The simplicity of it is what really grabs me, and it’s not everyday that you find a separated back board like the one seen here. Doesn’t it look great with the hardwood floor? I would match it with a baby blue or creamy yellow bedspread, myself, but espresso wood give you lots of color options. The metal detailing isn’t bad

Many of us like four poster beds, but the cumbersome drapes can sometimes turn many people off including myself. This Senegal bed (Akon’s birthplace I think Senegal?)
