The table offers a noticeable signature style, a twisting design that should easily get the attention of anyone. Apparently this is the distinctive style that makes Lelievre’s design stand out above traditional furniture pieces, offering classic forms and memorable pieces that only the artsy appreciating people are bound to love.

But with the right ergonomics, you can really transform them into something worthwhile and useful, similar to what David Derksen came up with.

P’Kolino Silly Soft Seating

We have seen a lot of different styled homes today and shipping containers are certainly one of them. We see some people making use of this different kind of living and apparently if you are creative enough, you may be surprised to come up with something classier to live in.

Adam Kalkin’s prehab homes made from shipping containers is a clear example. The architect makes container homes that are good looking, transportable and recyclable. He isn’t the only architect to make shipping container homes, but what he creates is exceptional and luxurious.

The best examples that explain his creativity are the Bunny Lane, his own home built with a 19th century clapboard cottage inside an industrial hanger, and the Push Button House, which takes just 90 seconds to expand to reveal a five-room home.

Kalkin charges $150-$400 per square foot for his container homes and the cheapest of his creations sells for $50,000.

We are all aware that some furniture designs normally originate from creativity and resourcefulness. Apparently, barrels which are familiar to us as containers for perhaps wine are overlooked once their contents are consumed. Where are they to go? For sure, dismantling them and perhaps making them firewood for some may be ideal but in both counts, you are hitting the garbage and the pollution problem if these are the actual things you have in mind.

But if you are like Jonathan Black, who has the knack for transforming barrels into something useful and unique, maybe you too can think of a good design and use for barrels often referred only as storage.

A bistro table or a hanging pot rack? A barrel head serving tray or a lazy Susan?

A carved clock or a wall cabinet?

“I’ve been doing this so long now I can take a barrel, look at that barrel, walk around it and look at all the different staves on the top and the bottom and determine exactly what product that barrel is going to make — how it is best served,” he claims.

Aware of this I challenged myself to turn the second hand books that I had been collecting, into desirable objects such as furniture, lighting and ornaments.
