How to Fab Your Walls
It’s all about experimenting with what you’ve got. Look around your space, or a friend’s. You can use almost anything:
* Pages from an old book: I couldn’t sell back my outdated Norton Anthologies, so I’m prepping those wafer thin pages to cover a column in 17th century poetry. There’s like, 2000 pages in all.
* Postcards from the edge: If you’re someone whose friends and family travel to ooh-la-la places and send good pics, use them.
* Greeting cards: Sort them by dominant color, (cut them up if you’re not sentimental) and create your own David Hockney-esque masterpiece
* CDs/DVDs: You don’t really need that outdated Windows Install CD do you? Declutter as you design by taking those cast-off CDs from home and the office and paint them to create a geometric border or wall treatment. It will look like, totally groovy.
* Sheet music: So lyrical and artsy
* Office swag: If you’re the type to bring work home, why not do something cathartic with those oh-so-colorful TPS reports? Or try the Business Card Art Wall idea we posted earlier.
DIY - How to turn IKEA Ramvik sideboard into a Gaming Machine!

Here’s a really cool DIY showing you how to turn an IKEA Ramvik sideboard into an old-school gaming machine.
I had an old Powerbook G4 with broken hinges that I wanted to find a use for. I eventually decided to turn it into a dedicated MacMame machine. Here you’ll be able to see how it evolves!
The Blog, Mettes Potteri has a very interesting post on how to make your own Sofabed without much sweat. All you need is bed linen, two normal mattresses and maybe some gumption!
Excerpt from post:
“The back cushions contain a foam mattress in the size 90 cm. by 90 cm. 9 cm. thick It is folded and hold together with a strap. When we have friend over two of these on the floor makes it out for one bed. The foam sort of makes the mattress stick to the floor so it doesn’t slide apart during the night. We make the bed in the extra room, so it is still possible to have a little privacy. It works very well..”
DIY - How to Make your own Stripa Wall Shoe Rack!

Here’s a great DIY on how to make your own wall shoe rack using some IKEA parts.
I really like the J-Me metal shoe rack that works in the same way as this one, but I want a few of these and the J-Me ones cost 50 GBP each. Home made ones I’ve seen made with planks and shelf brackets all look a bit ugly, but using a few of these pre-shaped Ikea shelves is more aesthetically pleasing, uses fewer components, and costs about 8 GBP.
DIY - How to add Vinyl Wall Art to your Bedroom!

There are bunch of ready-made vinyl wall art you can buy and paste onto your wall but if you are thinking about making them from scratch, here’s a cool DIY on how to add vinyl wall art to your livingroom or bedroom.
Apartments, however, are usually a pain to paint and then paint to cover-up your awesome paint, and an especially big pain when you move around as often as I do.
I do like having bright, interesting spaces, so I was brainstorming on creating a large art piece that I could maybe mount on the wall, or other types of removable decor, and the universe smiled on my with inspiration from one of my favorite blogs: Nest did a neat post on using contact paper to make wall decals.
With contact paper as my medium, a Tim Burton-esque / Tokyo Plastic vision of swirls, and a hot afternoon (or AC busted that weekend with temps in the 90s!), I was ready to start doin’ some art!.

Do you need an ultimate curtain for your window to block out the sun more efficiently?
You can refer to this simply DIY on how to make heat blocking curtains using insulating material and some creativity.
This will work well for those of you who live in areas with all-year sun.
To save electricity with our super expensive A/C, I constructed reflective curtains to block sunlight from warming our house. Think auto windshield. This is super simple and kind of obvious, but it works well.
DIY - How to Install a Central Vacuum in your Home!

Are you a hard-core home improvement nut like us? Then you might enjoy this DIY on how to install a central vacuum yourself.
After several months of research, I installed a central vacuum system in my house during many nights and weekends from December 2004 through January 2005. It was a big project, but well worth the effort. This instructable is intended to give an idea of the scope of the project.
I might actually consider this! This is really cool. A bed made of pipe! It looks pretty solid too, but I wonder if it’ll squeak when “activities” are being done on the bed? Probably will need some lubricants on the bed (no pun intended) to smoothen out the squeaks if there was.
