It is not as tough as it sounds and you can begin by attempting the DIY Flokati Pet Bed, whose instructions have been posted on Apartment Therapy.

Step by Step:1. Lay rug upside down on the floor 2. Measure all 4 sides of the rug and determine the half way mark of the rug (the point where the rug creases when folded in half.3. Measure and cut lengths of fuzzy sticky back velcro to cover the three sides of one half of the underside of the rug.4. Measure and cut lengths of scratchy sticky back velcro to cover the other three sides of the other half of the underside of the rug.5. Remove the sticky back velcro backing and adhere the velcro to the underside of the rug.6. Lay the pillow on one half of the underside of the rug and fold the other end of the rug over the pillow while crimping the velcro together to seal the pillow up like a giant ravioli.7. Place your small to medium dog on the pillow and watch them sleep.

For those of you trying to save space in college and you have a bunk bed with no one using the bottom of it, here’s a great way to make a hanging desk on the bottom of the bunk bed and save more space.

If you’re just putting up a loft and shoving all your crap under it, though, you’re wasting more potential than Lance Armstrong riding a Wal-Mart special. Lofts give you a sturdy piece of furniture with plenty of wooden beams – it’d be silly not to hang stuff off of them! That’s precisely the idea I got when I came home this summer and needed to build a desk. Instead of buying PVC pipe to build a standing desk, I picked up some chains and built a hanging desk. Now, not only do I have a cool-looking desk, but I also have all the floor space I would have had with no desk at all.

These UFO lamps are another cool way to light up your home with “another kind”. Seemingly, these DIY UFO lamps seem like they will beam you out of this world. Jason Dietz is the brains behind these awesome looking lamps, standing 5′5″ tall and made from some sort of recycled glass tube. The other parts in the build are light diffusers, LEDs, halogen lights, CFLs, and acrylic rings.

The ten gallons of water in the glass tube is bubbled by a 20-gallon air pump and making a plastic cow rise up and down the glass tube like a tractor beam. No aliens included!

DIY – How to Make a Spongebob Squarepants Bed!

If you have been looking for another way to throw away your old mattresses, don’t look at the landfill but look for solutions like this one where the author cuts/hacks his old mattresses into comfy sofas/couches.  Not only are we throwing away too many spring mattresses per year, these can add up to a lot of landfill space.

Why not recycle/re-make them into comfortable sofas?  Customize them to your liking, old mattresses can prove to be great recyclable furniture.

Certainly a similar hack with memory foam mattresses would be easier and make some great couches too.

The overall plan is to cut out a middle section of both the mattress and the box springs leaving two ends for each of the same size. Then closing up the ends and sewing covers for them out of canvas and upholstery fabric. The basic idea is pretty simple but it is a bit of work and requires both a Dremel tool (or something to cut the metal springs) and a sewing machine.

For those of you interested in carpentry and wood-building (AND you have kids), you might want to build your kids one of these Kid’s Playhouses out of old pallets and refurbished wood.  Not only will you be saving the environment by re-using the wood, you will save a whole bunch of money.

Try using shipping pallets and reclaimed wood to build your kids a funky playhouse. Or use it as a shed.

Not only was this project fun, I also travelled a lot and met a great many very nice people who were giving perfectly good materials for little or no money.

I spent $200 dollars on this project in 2008-2009. Over a hundred dollars went to paint, the rest to any building materials I couldn’t get for free.

Are you a total bookwork who hates being separated from their passion? Then you would love the Book Headboard, which you can make it at home by reading the complete post here.

Things You Would Ned:
*  a large assortment of book covers, carefully cut from the pages using an exacto knife or something similar. (These can be found at used book stores or thrift shops.)
* Elmer’s Glue-All or something similar – needs to be able to stick to wood and paper and dry strong and clear.
* polyurethane spray for finishing.
* pens or pencils for marking
* something heavy to weigh the books down while they dry
* 3M picture hanging strips for, well, hanging of course!
* a large sheet of smooth plywood that’s a 1/4 inch thick and as wide as your bed. Mine was 50 inches wide and around 30 tall.

Materials
In order to make your own SkullyBoom, you’re gonna need about $40 in materials, which is not bad. You will also need a soldering iron and a drill with various size bits. You will need a 1.75mm drill bit and a 2.2mm drill bit. You will also need something to cut through vinyl. A dremel with a rotary tool, a saw, or a razor will work. You will also want a grind wheel or a dremel to shape plastic.

Here’s what you need:

DIY: SkullyBoom

This DIY shows you how to make Cardboard Lumber which can be used in various building projects like tables, chairs, etc.

By laminating sheets of cardboard together into a large block and cutting this up with a table, or circular saw, you can create cardboard lumber of any dimensions you want: 2x4s, 2x8s, 4x4s. If you alternate the grain of the corrugations you can create plywood. If you glue your lumber together end-to-end you can create strong honeycomb-like boards.

You will only need three things to create cardboard lumber:
1) A Saw
2) Lots of cardboard
3) Glue… lots of glue

We all have grown up playing Pinball at some point of our childhood. And I must say this DIY project brings some great memories. To build your own Pinball Machine follow the instructions here.

“The ball is from an old computer mouse, with the rubber coating removed (you could use a marble as well). A crafty person should never throw perfectly good stuff in the trash. Just hang onto it, and eventually you’ll find a new use for it down the road!”

“With some parental help, this can be a kid-friendly project. Building a solid table with a functioning paddle assembly requires some basic woodworking skills, and may be fairly difficult without proper guidance and appropriate tools. But once the paddle assemblies are in place, just about anyone can build ramps and jumps or anything else they can imagine for the upper part of the table. To me that’s where the real fun lies–creating various obstacles and then seeing a ball bounce around all over and through them, somewhat under your power.”

If you want to learn how to make a pillow with corded trim at home then go here. This is what you need to do first in this nifty DIY project.

1)    Lay out your material and cut the size pillow you would like. For example mine is 18×15 inches. Don’t forget to leave a half inch or more for your seam allowance.
2)    Measure all 4 sides of the pillow for the length of strips and cording and allow a little extra, add them together plus an extra 2 inches.
3)    Cut 2 inch strips for cording, cut as many strips necessary. I am using a contrasting material to make the pillows have more color. Sew strips together to make one long one.
