Cleanser-shaped Chairs

Modern desks and tables are manufactured here and there and Maurice Calka has this new space age design for you to consider. Designed by the French sculptor and designer in 1969 for Leleu-Deshays LDD, the desk is made of fiberglass and includes an integral adjustable upholstered swivel chair.

The iconic chair is now up for grabs at Sotheby’s Fine 20th Century Design sale. They say that only four or five P.-D.G desks were made and the one listed at the auction site is a previously unknown example. Targeted at senior management (P.-D.G stand for Président Directeur Générale), the desk was also available with optional integral circuitry for telephone, intercom and television monitor.

It’s the rarity of the chair that makes it the highlight of Sotheby’s Fine 20th Century Design sale. The P.-D.G desk is estimated to sell for between £60,000 and £90,000 (nearly $87,000 and $131,000).

We here at Bedzine give Kevin Hassler a big thumbs for creating an airplane bed modeled after a U.S. Air Force Thunderb Hassler. Hassler did it for his 3 year old son and even hand-painted “Lt. Commander Brody Hassler, a.k.a. ‘Brodmeister which is his son’s nickname.

The father used the following materials: 18-inch bendable plywood for sides, wood and fiberglass (front of plane) and insulated foam board (to hold shape under fiberglass nose cone)

You have to go through a lot of energy to get it recycled,” Konawicz explained. “With this process… when you’re done with the chair, it biodegrates into the earth. So there’s no waste and it doesn’t harm the earth at all, and I thought that was impressive.”

Furniture Design Wrapup from Zedomax

From afar, it may look like this lounge chair is deceiving in looks as who would ever thought it was really a chair? Well if you want something different or simply a furniture for kicks, you should really get hold of this one for your home.

The chair was sculpted at 1/8th scale using Sculpey clay. From there, the model was cut into ¼ inch slices. These slices were scanned, blown up to full scale, and plotted to be used as a template for the full scale model. From there, the templates were adhered to 2 inch pink insulation foam, cut out, and assembled to the full scale form.

Countless hours of sanding later, the form was coated in 4 coats of Elmer’s glue to protect the foam from resin. After the glue was dried, the form was sprayed with chopped fiberglass using a chopper gun. Once dried, the fiberglass was sanded down, then coated with Bondo. After sanding the Bondo as smooth as possible, it was painted with high epoxy glossy white paint.
