We are looking at an age where people are preferring to live in smaller homes mainly due to the high cost of owning a home. But while the spaces are cramped which push people towards turning smaller and compact appliances, General Electric unveils two new lines of appliance ranges that should fit in perfectly and carry that elegance that appliances are known to have.

Both GE Profile and Monogram lines also offer selections that are perfect for the empty-nester who is moving to a smaller home or condo. Both models provide effective, yet quiet cleaning power with a five-level wash system and hidden, integrated electronic.

Here are some of the stainless steel appliances you can expect, particularly for a compact but modern kitchen.

• The GE stainless steel 24-inch electric range (JAP02SNSS) features a black smooth ceramic cooktop surface to make cleaning quick and easy. It also features a self-cleaning oven with a large ClearView window. The range is also available in a gas model (GAS02SENSS).
• The tall, slim GE 11.6 cu. ft. full door bottom freezer is available in stainless steel (GBC12IAXRSS) and includes a 7.30 cu. ft. fresh food capacity including electronic sensors for temperature management.
• You can still have an ENERGY STAR qualified dishwasher with the smaller GE Spacemaker 18-inch Built-in Dishwasher (GSM1860NSS). The full-length flat door fits nearly flush with cabinetry for a seamless look.
• The GE 1.8 cu. ft. countertop microwave oven, with sensor cooking controls (JEB1860SMSS), automatically adjusts time and power for delicious cooking results.

GE Reveals Furniture Line for Smaller Home Spaces

Ok here we go again. A new round of recalls has been announced due to some safety issues but this time around they are not from China. Rather, thanks to the incidents that have been reported on one occasion or another, it can be seen that these stuff which include hammock stands, toasters, chest drawers and boilers have caused injury to consumers who have bought them.

• Hammock stands. About 30,000 wooden hammock stands, manufactured in China and imported by Pottery Barn, because the stand can deteriorate over time when used outdoors. This poses a risk of falls and cuts. The company has received 12 reports of injuries. The stands were sold through the Pottery Barn catalog and Web site between March 2003 and July 2008.

• Toasters. About 210,000 General Electric toasters, manufactured in China and imported by Wal-Mart Stores, because they can short-circuit and pose a fire or shock hazard. The toasters were sold at Wal-Mart Stores around the country between September 2007 and July 2008.

• Chest of drawers. About 5,000 KVIBY chests, manufactured in Denmark by Ikea Home Furnishings, because the glass knobs on the drawers can break, posing a risk of cuts. The company received three reports of cuts in the United States that required medical attention. The chests were sold at Ikea stores around the country between August 2007 and July 2008.

• Boilers. About 4,600 Vitodens 200 boilers, manufactured in Canada by Viessmann Manufacturing, because the gas can leak. This poses a fire hazard. The boilers were sold by plumbing and heating contractors around the country between January 2002 and December 2007.
