Recycled Furniture To Preserve Legacies
1 Comment Published by brian yalung October 13th, 2007 in BED Furniture, BED Home, BED News, Home Designs.
While most people are busy trying to replace and improve their home designs with the onslaught of newly released furniture designs, there are still some people like Wilhelmina Garcia, a 28 year old interior designer from the Philippines in preserving old furniture and recycling them to be what they once were.
Indeed not many people would go through to all the trouble of trying to refurbish their old furniture. There are still remaining sentimental values in them and if only people would give it a thought, nothing beats the design and complement of old furniture in homes today.
“Iam a big believer of recycling, workin the concept of going back to the basics, of preserving nature’s legacy,” says 28-year-old interior designer, Wilhelmina Garcia. Such ardor for everything recycled and “nature-based” produced the refreshing unit design which won the grand prize in the 2007 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) National Competition for Interior Design.

Recycled Furniture Art - The Pile Chair

Wow, check out the recycled design scene starting out with this pile chair which is made of old furniture. We will need more and more great ideas like this to re-use wood and save trees. (more ozone created as a results…)
knowing that any discarded furniture may have a second life as Fumi Masuda’s stunning Pile Chair, which is built out of old and discarded furniture collected by movers. The idea came from a Japanese moving company, Mover, that provides a service to collect discarded furniture (think of all the sofas and chairs you see strewn on the sidewalk). As an alternative to disposal, the company figured that the furniture could be used as raw material for new designs, instead of the end product. Fumi Masuda’s Pile Chair emerged from a collaborative project with students and teachers from the Design Department at Tokyo Zokei University and Mover.
Asian design and Korean Farm Style

Check out some of the cool asian furniture you can decorate your living room with, including the furniture used in Korean farm houses.
My personal favorite is the Maru coffee table. The coffee table is assembled from original slabs of Korean flooring. The wood is three inches thick, and held up with legs from the actual porch supports.
Sometimes, old furniture can bring your living room a fresh “asian” look for serenity and peace.
