If there is one thing about going green as far as interior design in homes are concerned, it goes more than simply buying eco-friendly materials. Designing any place of your home would include making it safe and keeping it clean. There are a lot of people who have already taken the initiative and one of the notable green designs would have to be the interior design concept of the Westfield Bloom Kitchen designed by Shari Stein.

According to Stein, eco-friendly rooms tend to use fewer materials, and whatever is used is more environmentally sustainable. This is especially important since a lot of waste ends up in a landfill after a home or apartment is renovated, she said.

Green interior design can also produce health benefits, Stein said, adding that she researches manufacturers and tries to avoid carpeting, wallpaper and paint that contain or emit toxins.

She also tries to use materials that are produced closer to home. “If you’re getting an exotic wood from Africa, they would take more embodied energy to bring it here,” she said. “You want to find things that are local to the area.”

Copying the Westfield Bloom Kitchen

We here at Bedzine give Kevin Hassler a big thumbs for creating an airplane bed modeled after a U.S. Air Force Thunderb Hassler. Hassler did it for his 3 year old son and even hand-painted “Lt. Commander Brody Hassler, a.k.a. ‘Brodmeister which is his son’s nickname.

The father used the following materials: 18-inch bendable plywood for sides, wood and fiberglass (front of plane) and insulated foam board (to hold shape under fiberglass nose cone)

Some artists believe that art is created simply to be admired. They feel that their artwork, whether it be made from paint and canvas or forged out of steel, should be looked at and respected, but never touched. Others, however, believe that art is for the enjoyment of everyone. These artists usually believe in what is known as functional artwork, which can include a piece of furniture or any kind of object that is created to be both beautiful and usable at the same time. It is often difficult to find a true piece of functional artwork that is made to be a bed.
