The design seems to be futuristic and limited to the people with the moolah but the Glowing Light Ball Bench is really something that could technically “light” up any home in an instant. The bench was designed as a set of three glowing glass after which there only lies a wooden plank with perforation in them, giving it design some added utility as well.

The Glowing Light Ball Bench was designed by Mark Kienhofer and was built in Austria. Using the rare fabric of plexi-glass, each of these globes first crafted into these unique shapes, which also ensure that the furniture is stable on the ground. The plywood planks on tops where then screwed onto the spheres to offer the necessary comfort while the LED lighting system caps off the perfect lush functionality that people will surely adore inside or outside.

In times where people cannot find the right furniture to suit their home needs, there are some who have the talent to create such with the right vision and craft. Such was the story of one Bruce Marsh who made first few pieces some years ago when he was not able to find the suitable ready made furniture.

Now as it turns out, discovering the talent of making your own furniture has enabled Marsh to go into business, accepting orders that are handmade. Among the home furniture being ordered from him include chairs, benches, beds and tables. Most of them are available at his website.

He works in hardwoods like walnut, teak and oak, most of which come from managed forests, and uses water-based finishes. The Townsend Split Table (right) has a top of inch-thick hand-hewn planks and comes in a choice of woods and sizes. A walnut table 36 inches by 96 inches that seats 10 is $1,250; in rosewood, it is $1,950.

Here’s a great DIY on how to make your own wall shoe rack using some IKEA parts.

I really like the J-Me metal shoe rack that works in the same way as this one, but I want a few of these and the J-Me ones cost 50 GBP each. Home made ones I’ve seen made with planks and shelf brackets all look a bit ugly, but using a few of these pre-shaped Ikea shelves is more aesthetically pleasing, uses fewer components, and costs about 8 GBP.
