Sitting on the Shanghai Riddle Interiors

We all know that plastic has been hit hard by the eco-friendly practices today but you cannot discount the fact that compared to traditional furniture, putting hard plastic to use is way better that throwing them away.
The Shanghai Riddle looks a lot like the glorified and designed mono block chairs, made of hard plastic furniture that some people are turning to when it comes to chairs and stools. The Shanghai Riddle is quite deceiving. Thanks to a different type of design, they are made to look like wooden chairs but are actually hard plastic which homes can use since they are more affordable and lighter to move around.

Baas’ interpretation comes in the form of hand-carved elm replicas of plastic mass-produced furniture, highlighting the contrast between treasured Chinese handcraft and contemporary, mass-produced and mass consumed. As with all Baas’ work the unlikely aesthetic is humorous but thought-provoking rather than gratuitous.

Here is something that can really fit into your homes. Aero stools, which bring a sort of mid-century look, are sure to fit into your usual living room, providing the necessary ambiance especially for incoming guests. They are made from hard Brazilian FSC-certified Pau Ferro wood, coupled with a cream-coloured cushion made from synthetic leather. They are made to order.
Price: £895.
Slightly mid-century in inspiration, but much more reminiscent of something from the 1970s - the Aero Stool is also an eco-friendly piece of seating.
Inspired by ‘a mirror image on a still lake’, the curved seat is made from hard Brazilian FSC-certified Pau Ferro wood, coupled with a cream-coloured cushion made from synthetic leather.

The Donut Foot Rest is just what you need after a long day. Funky yet functional, the footrest consists of three parts: a 32″ wheel with a 16″ hole in the middle accommodating two 16d x 6H high poufs. The Foot Rest is squeezable and adheres to the principle of “playing, messing about on the floor, sitting, relaxing or as a decorative element in its own right.”

The New York Fashion Stool tries to capture the spirit of the Big Apple, which we think it has succeeded in. The stool is available on Etsy for $199 and is part of the Alta Moda Fashion barstool series. The top of the chair has been coated with Vyrex in case you were wondering.
You know Molo got it right with their softseating since Museum of Modern Art in New York has acquired it for their permanent collection! Each softseating is modular with magnetic end panels, allowing them to fan open into stool or any other piece of furniture.
“the combinations of joining, stacking and leaning the fanning stools, benches and loungers allows endless possibilities for creating seating environments and interior landscapes.”
Furniture that lights up your living room and we don’t mean ir metaphorically! Check out the ‘corral table’ and ‘bronco stool’ , which is made from polyethylene, and come equipped with a lighting unit. When color filters are used with the lamps, the standard white corral table can be turned into a colorfully eye catching piece of furniture.

This High Heel Stool, dubbed the Stiletto Stool, is obviously inspired by the stiletto heel which is the very icon of high fashion. The cushioned seat is supported by what seems to be a large (and potentially fatal if used as a weapon!) sharp stiletto. The stool itself is created from polyethylene and leather, available in black, red and orange. Encased in a transparent cylinder, it sure looks like you’re delicately teethered upon it when seated! Makes a good conversation piece. Find it here.
The Mango Wood Turned Stool doesn’t exactly look comfortable and not the kind of furniture which beckons you to plonk down after a stressful day. However the stool does look exquisite and has been crafted by Thai artisans from mango wood.
“Its textured curves highlight the wood’s natural beauty and character including color variations, knots and cracks. Unfinished natural wood so each piece is unique; measurements will vary slightly. 13″W x 18″H; 25 lbs.”
