Clocks were never as advanced today as they were in the earlier years, maybe even most of us were around. But for the curious minds, here is a clock that should come close to taking you back to the timepieces of yesteryears called the Umbra Time Teller. The Umbra Time Teller takes the concept of the sundial, relying on the traditional clock hands to tell time. It features some shadowed lines to show the hour and the minutes, common but on a different way of telling the time. The Umbra Time Teller was designed by Roshan Hakkim, something that relies on two strips of LED and not actual sunlight. The needle casts two shadows on the surface of the clock depending on the position of both lights. These two shadows represent either the hour or the minute, giving the clock an overall clean and simple look. Via The Umbra Time Teller Clock

For the record, the blight concept involves attaching solar panels onto venetian blinds. Blight is a word play on “blinds” and “light”. The panels soak up the sun during the day, and at night they light up your life. Sunlight charges a battery cell on the top of the blinds. Then when you’re ready to use actual power you collected from it (normally advisable at night time). (Source) CNet Blight the Blinds for Solar Power and Energy Savings

They are blinds by day and lamps by night. This is what best typifies this design brought to us by Korean designers Yoon-Hui Kim and Eun-Kyung. During the daytime, we all hate the sunlight and as an alternative to curtains, blinds are being used by most homes. Now while the shutters are closed, little solar pads are installed at the blinds facing the sun thus soliciting solar power energy for the Solar Vertical Lamps. Once night time comes, simply switch on these vertical lamps, fully charged and without the need to plug them to any outlet. They can be ideal mood lights for people once the evening sets in with no additional energy costs to worry about. (Source) Yanko Designs Solar Vertical Lamps By Night

Bamboo has surely been in the air these days as far as ideal alternative raw materials for finished furniture needs are concerned, and apparently the attention is drawing a lot of bright ideas, both from designers and the consumers. Designers have come up with a lot of different home and furniture ideas but don’t leave out the consumers as well. Consumers seem to have shifted their attention towards bamboo as well and apparently it is safe to say that bamboo is slowly becoming a resource to help address home needs and furniture solutions. Adapt furniture made from natural materials which are renewable, or sustainable material like bamboo or cork and arrange them such that they don’t block the flow of energy or sunlight.
