Have You Cleared the Chimney Yet?

by brian yalung on Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

One part of the home that is bound to be busy would be the home heating and the ambiance-setting fireplace. Normally within a year, the fireplace is the last thing you would think of cleaning. So imagine for the past 11 months how your chimney would be open to all sorts of debris and possible clogs. It would be best to check it out before you start chopping and burning those firewood since the smoke may just go inward to you home rather than out the chimney.

Cleaning chimneys is easy if you have the man of the house equipped with the proper tools like a chimney rods that act as declogging tool for all potential dust and objects that may have accumulated over the months.

Before you do that, make sure you cover the fireplace opening with a plastic tarp held on with duct tape. Finally, wear a mask and change into your old clothes. It may become messy especially if you haven’t cleaned that old chimney for months or even years!

Or if you are afraid to do it, call a handyman to assist you. For a fee, they can surely help you clear out that chimney in time for the cold season.
