Fighting Malaria with Bed Nets

We have heard as of late that the growing cases of Malaria are striking anywhere. While many are trying to seek preventive measures such as ensuring clean surroundings and making use of aerosol insecticides, when we sleep on our beds, we can really add something to it like a bed net that makes sure that these carrying mosquitoes cannot get in.
Around the world, especially in Asian countries such as the Philippines, this is a familiar trend. In the Philippines, they call this as “Kulambo” which helps keep the insect biting pests away when we are sleeping on our beds.
Malaria is rampant in places such as the Philippines and other countries nearby. While it is something that most people would see as a cheap way to sleep, health comes first regardless of what they think.
“The funding for the nets will come from a combination of donor nations, multilateral institutions, and private sector corporations and grassroots campaigns,” Chambers told IPS.
Announcing the new strategy Friday, the first “World Malaria Day”, Chambers said the initiative would include long-lasting insecticidal bed nets or household spraying for at-risk populations, more effective diagnosis and treatment of malaria, and Intermittent Preventative Treatment (IPT) for pregnant women in the hardest hit areas.
