Ordinarily, you would think that it would be the women who would have strict preferences on what to put in their homes. Wives and ladies are usually responsible for what to place like perhaps the type of bed to place in the bedroom or the living room sofa. But today, men are slowly getting into the act and much of it can be attributed to technology and what type of furniture can complement it.
Benjamin Huntington, founder of New York’s interior design firm MH Studio LLC, for instance, has noticed that, among his married clients, husbands now are more active in the design process than they were 10 years ago. He attributes much of this shift to the increasingly high-tech nature of the modern home.
“Functionality is very important,” he said. “There is a greater interest in technological advances, home automation and everything that goes with that. An interest in automated window blinds easily expands to questions about the fabric: What does it feel like? What can it do for me?”
