Last week, Nicole Kidman gave birth to her biological daughter, Sunday Rose and hasn’t been seen since then. A lot of this points to the people who are less fortunate, having to look for a good place to rest which often times is the concrete floors of public places.

In a world where finance and pricing are obviously two erratic words today, bed manufacturer Five Star Mattress has followed a different route, trying to become consumer-friendly and cutting down on its retail prices. Just when most companies today are trying desperately to determine how to offset raw materials and operation costs, here is a company that is going the opposite direction.

A professional business expert would call it suicide or perhaps a product of inferior quality. But on a business strategy aspect, it is a brilliant move to capture a majority of the bedding market. Surely it will garner a large chunk of the pie but hopefully, it will not sink its teeth in the overall production cost and provide profits.

“This is not a temporary rollback, but new, more competitive pricing that will rock the industry, providing higher margins for dealers than was ever thought possible,” she said. “We are making a big push to gain additional business. We are the only producer in the industry that is lowering prices.”

Declaring bankruptcy may save you from further legal mitigations as far as payables are concerned but for large bed companies such as Dormia, it does not stop there. Acting apparently on their claim of bankruptcy, Dormia has been ordered to liquidate all its assets and products before it closes its doors.

For Dormia, this means additional work prior to closing the books. But for the consumers like us, it means lucrative discounts towards bed products such as mattresses, pillows and bed covers.

After the sales, Dormia will close all of its store locations, though it will continue to manufacture bedding products to be sold by other retailers.

Bankrupt mattress retailer Dormia has been ordered by a bankruptcy court to sell off all the merchandise at its retail locations - including its two stores in the Triangle.

Though the bed bugs may not be immediately seen but can wreak havoc in our journey towards safe and sound sleep, we can always look for alternatives. This does not mean you have to use the normal aerosols everyday when you are not lying on your bed. Given the right emphasis, these bed bugs may yet be the thing of the past once we start to fight them with the arsenal provided by these bed companies.

“Just a couple of years ago, it was a pest that not many people had seen. Now, virtually every pest control company that we’re in contact with is dealing with regular bedbug incidents,” said Greg Baumann, vice president of Technical Services for the National Pest Management Association.

Because bedbugs are primarily associated with mattresses, some companies are now designing protective products for bedding. London Luxury LLC has just introduced a collection of “bed bug barrier bedding,” mattress and pillow protectors, available through Bed Bath & Beyond.

Allergy Solutions Inc. also sells mattress encasements, as do Protect-A-Bed and National Allergy Supply’s Bedcare line. The Harvard School of Public Health says any encasement that is used for protection from the dust mite is sufficient for much larger bed bugs.
