Langley headboard
0 Comments Published by HomeAndBedroom October 7th, 2008 in Day Bed, Headboards, Home Designs, decorating, discount-bedroom-furniture, interior-design.
Sometimes something ornate is just what fits. Sometimes it is something spindly and windy that you want to have in your bedroom. Other times, however, you want something simple and plain but that doesn’t lack in style. This is where metal headboards come in. Unlike wood, metal headboards can be bent, twisted, and melded into a pleasing shape. If you’re looking to have a more feminine touch or something that is whacky to look at, metal can be twisted and transformed into that. If you’re in the mood for something more solid and straightforward, however, you can find that in metal as well.
The Langley Headboard is the perfect example of a contemporary headboard that is made from metal. The design is classic: solid metal poles going down with a solid bar on the top. Each bar has a rounded ball at the end of it and the entire thing, from spindles to posts, is a deep copper that has a layer of black antiquing over it to give it even more style than it would have had if it were colored any other color.
This piece of affordable bedroom furniture, made by the Fashion Bed Group, is a one that is ideal simply because it fits in almost any room. You could buy this headboard in a king size and use it in your master bedroom. You could buy it in a twin size and use it for your teenaged son’s bedroom. Or you can get it in a full or queen and use it in the guest bedroom. This headboard is so versatile that you could even use it as the bed in a home office type of situation! If you’re looking for something simple yet solid, this is the headboard for you.
Looking for the Silverware
0 Comments Published by brian yalung July 27th, 2008 in Dining, Home Appliances, Home Designs, Livingroom, Lounge, dining sets.Silver is the dark horse style when it comes to people who want a different make. Normally, modern furniture is taken from the usual colorful pieces but as far as decors and home wares are concerned, nothing beats the quality of good china.
Ceramics and wood designs are in use but if you look back, China made pieces are still a big hit these days. While many end up with the standards wares, silverware is still available from China exporters if you know where to look.
You can see them at shows but when it comes to finally getting one, chances are you will have a hard time looking for them to purchase for your home. Further, their brand names are not that famous. But if you look at the right places and do some great research, then perhaps you can find these things in the market stocked somewhere.

Today collectors can find late 19th- and 20th-century Chinese silver made for the American market at many sales and shows. But the names and marks are unfamiliar to many. One source in Hong Kong was Wang Hing, a jeweler, who marked his pieces with Chinese characters or the initials “WH” or even the words “Wang Hing.” The number 90 was also used to tell the grade of silver — not quite sterling quality. Many pieces with these marks are found. The silver often has Asian designs such as bamboo branches, Chinese people and pagodas, but other silver looks European. Prices of the silver are less than for similar pieces made with English designs.

Old Furniture Can Be Part of New Designs
1 Comment Published by brian yalung July 14th, 2008 in BED Furniture, Home Appliances, Home Designs, News, coffee table.
When it comes to decorating, it is all about concept and organization. Hence, if you have old furniture lying around, don’t just give them away or throw them out. They may still play a vital role in complementing the perfect room design you have in mind and you will be surprised at their impact.
Old chairs, tables or even the standard coffee tables that may have depreciated over time can still be used at times. There are people who want designs that can provide a mixture of antique and modern furniture and rather than buying, making use of old stuff can really make a difference.
If you want a good tip, old furniture can be remodeled as well. An old round table for instance, can be redesigned the modern way, adding some glass and a couple of varnish to certain parts that need touches for better presentation. Seriously, you will be surprised at the output; practically to be mistaken as new furniture for a cheaper price!

Icon Designs from Eileen Gray

Eileen Gray is a known name in the furniture design business. She has given a new meaning towards conceptualization and design and a lot of it were introduced in the market in the 1900’s. During these times, modern furniture designs were conceived as mechanical and were it not for the vested interest of one Andre Putman, perhaps none of us would see the contemporary designs that are sure hits today.
The appreciation of Gray’s performance back then were perhaps not seen as the tomorrow of modern design. Today however, we can see similarities of her concepts and then some, which are surely ideal stuff that anyone would want in their homes today.
She designed a new range of furniture for the home and in line with the Bauhaus and Modernists’ philosophies, moved away from creating exclusive, one-off pieces, instead preferring to create furniture that was simple, refined and functional and that allowed for mass production.
One small table in particular, called the E-1027, is one of Gray’s most recognised pieces. Also the name Gray gave to her San Tropez house, the E-1027 was small, round and amazingly versatile and, today is considered one of the icons of modern design. She also designed chairs, settees, desks and storage units for her home.
Sadly, her clients initially shunned Gray’s new direction and interest in her work waned. Just before her death, however, Andre Putman, a prominent French designer, revived interest in Gray’s designs and obtained a licence to manufacture several of them. Exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York followed.

Cherishing Antique Furniture Handed Down To You
0 Comments Published by brian yalung June 26th, 2008 in Home Appliances, Home Designs, News.
Most of us will reach the point where inheritance will not be purely money and properties. This can even go as far as your grandma’s old furniture at the ancestral homes which can really be a rare find and may even cost a fortune. If not, it is the sentimental value that they provide that is really the valuable part in them.
But considering the way that people look up to the modern furniture designs, the fact is people are torn between valuing handed down stuff and setting their sights towards newer furniture by disposing the old ones. Of the two, you are bound to hear a lot of bickering from your relatives most pointing out to you how money could be more important than something of sentimental value from your ancestors.
Here is the problem with family furnishings: they are never simply stuff. As hard as it may be to dispose of a piece of furniture you bought with the fellow who turned out to be your ex-husband, it is far more difficult to get rid of a piece bequeathed to you by a member of a previous generation, which carries with it not only your memories, but his or hers as well.
Even today, when so many people favor simple, modern décor, turning your back on a grandmother’s tea set or ornate settee can feel like betrayal. Admit to your family you’re thinking of getting rid of such a piece and you’re likely to kick off a family opera, with crescendoing wails of “How could you?” Quite likely, you’ll be torturing yourself with the same question.
Ambivalence and guilt, it seems, are central elements of furniture inheritance, the anchoring pieces around which everything is organized, like the sofa in a living room. Barry Lubetkin, a psychologist and the director of the Institute for Behavior Therapy in Manhattan, has observed this in a number of patients living with inherited furniture they hate. It’s an unhealthy setup, in which people become “slaves to inanimate objects,” he says. “Once you’re defining it as something you can’t get rid of, you’re not in control of your life or your home.”

Gabrielle Pezzini Bucket Stools
0 Comments Published by brian yalung June 24th, 2008 in Chairs, Home Designs, outdoors.
We are all aware that some initial impressions as far as modern furniture is concerned, will draw varied criticism and even laughter from people who use initial impact as their key. For people like Gabrielle Pezzini, exploring relationships between objects and users to forge new connections makes his concepts something to behold.
Bucker Stools may seem may initially be weird but when you think of it, the handles are quite deceiving. Shaped magnificently, they can make great outdoor furniture that goes well in hand with modern conceptualization of homes today.
But our favorite just might be the bucket-shaped Moving stool, like all great designs, it seems so obvious once it’s been done. Why didn’t anyone think of it sooner? Buckets with handles have been around since antiquity and are still tops. Now reinvented in light-weight recyclable PE, they’re kicking into the 21st century as a mobile bum-rest/ footstool/ side table. Not bad, and suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Madison Platform Bed
0 Comments Published by HomeAndBedroom May 28th, 2008 in BED Furniture, Bed Designs, Bedroom. It was time to redecorate our guest bedroom. Redecorating the guest bedroom meant replacing the old rickety furniture with newer and more modern furniture. We knew that we needed a queen or king size bed that would fill in the excess space in our guest bedroom, so we began our search. Lifestyle Solutions Furniture is where we started and where we ended. It did not take us very long to realize that they had the contemporary furniture that would be just the thing our renovated guest bedroom would need.
Our search led us to the Madison Platform Bed. The sleek design of this bed was exactly what our guest bedroom needed. The contemporary lines on the bed catch your attention, but the bed does not overtake the whole room. The cappuccino color matches the new décor we had chosen perfectly. The leather headboard created a sense of comfort within our newly decorated guest bedroom.
We discovered that platform beds were the perfect solution to the guest bedroom guessing game. You never know who might drop in and use that guest bed. A platform bed, like ours, is a comfortable and inviting bed for any guest who decides to stay the night. This bed has no need for a box spring mattress due to its superior level of support, which means that our guests will find it to be just the right height. It also means that they will wake up in the morning well rested and feeling great. Now we can treat our guests not only to fun times together, but also to a wonderful night of sleep.
Scilly Modern Bed

Many accuse modern furniture of lacking warmth and though at times I do agree with this sentiment, I also feel that Scilly Modern Bed doesn’t suffer from the fate. The Scilly is an upholstered bed with 2.5″ thick padded headboard in graded-in fabrics or leathers. The highlight of the bed is no doubt its tall headboard, which needs to be wall mounted.
